Nose is primarily creamy espresso with roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and a prevailing alcohol note. Flavor is lots of coffee with heavily roasted malt and sweet dark fruit. Sweet but alcoholic, hops come out in the finish. Palate is thick and viscous... tingling, warming, and agressive. Impressive beer in its own right, but a definite unique winner for its style. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2008 pours motor oil black with smallish head for an impy. aroma- espresso reigns supreme with chocolate, alcohol, and dark fruit added. Flavor isn’t overly complex but very aggressive, alcohol bite is a pugnacious shot that stings the gums. Excellent imp. stout because it has unique focus and the alcohol adds a whole other dimension. Incredible stuff. Jblauvs (542), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2008 Pours obsidian black with almost zero head, what is there is a dark beige. Nice aroma , deep fruity berries, strong complex coffee character, some oily hop notes. Palate is sticky and strong, with an almost overwhelming burnt toast character along with treacle sweetness, scotch warmth , and a vanilla tinge to the herbally bitter finish. Don’t know, this one feels a little out of balance for me. Certainly a monstrosity though. Mogwai (218), Askeby, Denmark

Aroma is coffee, roasted/burnt, chocolate, malt. Flavor is again coffee, burnt, very spicy and VERY alcoholic!! Pilsner hops gives it a slight bitter finish Schroppfy (1812), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Roasty, acrid, coffeeish and a touch sour. Plummy, but not with the richness as in many of my favorite imperials. A good mix, but hot and thinning. It is a big beer all around and the flavors meld pretty well, but the alcohol is strong and detracting a bit. Aroma is a strong point; really nice coffee aromas.
Thanks to Kevin for the bottle!
