Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz(?) bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is coffee and chocolate, with some roasty malt. Medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are coffee and chocolate. The hops are earthy. Good body. There is some pepper flavor at the backend. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Black oily with not too much head. Actually none at all. Smell is coffee, powerful alcohol, and roasty. Slick taste with roastiness, coffee, alcohol, and malts.

Bottle via SS. Dark color. Smell of coffee, malt, alcohol, smoke, hops and sugar. Taste of roasted coffee, malt, hops, caramel, alcohol, and some fruit. I think this is too over rated.

Poured a pitch black color with almost no head. Aroma is of strong coffee and wine. Flavor is also very strong coffee flavor but with a nice bitter dryness which is also a bit fruity. The alcohol is extremely well hidden in this great beer.

Nearing black with a medium brown head. Aroma is sweet with burnt malt, licorice and alcohol. Flavor is quite vinous and sweet with burni malt, chocolate, vanilla and anise. Finishes bitter and dry. Good stuff.

I have this puppy sitting in my cellar for 6 months and still haven’t dug into it. Well celebration time, college graduation is tomorrow morning. Pours a murky dark brown color with an easily aggravated large brown head. Nose of dark fruits, roasted malts, chocolate, alcohol is definitely apparent with touch of coffee. Initial taste of chocolate, alcohol, dark fruits and coffee. Mid palate emphasizes the roasted malts. Finishing with mild hop balance, chocolate, smokiness is also touched upon briefly. Palate duration is above average, slight dry. Good head retention and lacing of the glass. Mouthfeel was very thin for me and oily texture. Alcohol is definitely impressive with stronger hints on the nose and touches in the beggining, otherwise well balanced for sure. This is probably the easiest drinking imperial stout, especially 13.1% I have ever had. I would consider this to be my party beer since I look for full body in my imperials.
