mirjukka (695), LOHJA, Finland Apr 8, 2008 bottle at home GLRBF 290308
color:black bit bubbles no lace or head
Scent:bit alcohol, coffee ,fizzy
Taste: quite heavy multi flavor and coffee attacks, most sticky. Quite nice aftertaste after all . Anyway please I want my coffee from mug not mixed into beer! Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Apr 7, 2008 C&C 12.7oz bottle from unclejedi - thanks! Jet black with a dense brown head. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate and grapefruit in the nose to start, some acetone scents come later. Full bodied, drippy lace. Very grapefruity flavor - far too much grapefruit, really. Behind the citrus wall is some coffee and chocolate, some roasty/burnt flavors and something like cigarette smoke. Burns down the gullet all the way to the gut, hard to say if it’s a hop or alcohol burn. I’d love to try this without all the grapefruit, but as it is I’m not too impressed. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 6, 2008 This was black as night with a strong ABV as it warmed with a lot of roasted malts and chocolate with a syrup type finish and thickness a real sipper and enjoyable.CHEERS! jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown, nearly black color with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, rich espresso and a bit of ash. Flavor was molasses, soy, chocolate, some vanilla and a strong alcohol presence on the finish. Very rich texture, but a bit cloying. Very good, but not really my cup of tea. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2008 Slightly translucent and blackened chestnut in color with soda bubbles and popping oysters at the surface. Aroma paves the way for greasy, oily chocolate to saturate the nose, echoing fervently with buttery mocha beans, lactic and dense almond fudge and slightly burnt pumpernickel bread soaking in dark chocolate cocoa pools. Flavor allures a vibrant complexity, foremost with cocoa chocolate oats sticking at the bottom of a milky, espresso laden café concoction. Oily body with mere traces of carbonation makes the mouthfeel subside less enthusiastically than the expectations that the palate has for the liquid. A trace of alcohol rears its head as the syrupy coffee flavored lozenge gets torn apart through diffusion across the tongue. A charcoal flavor with burnt molasses and heavily roasted mocha beans hangs around after the sticky, coffee flavored syrup extends itself down the hatch. CapedBrewsader (260), Brasschaat, Belgium Apr 3, 2008 37.5cl bottle at De Kulminator: Pours black with red-brown edges. On top lays a thin but very creamy dark mocha head. Aroma is a wonderful bold blend of roast coffee, roasted barley, hops and a deep deep chocolate. Alcohol does make itself known on the nose. The boldness continues in the mouth. A deep dark roasted black hole with some creamy toffee, hops, a touch of mint, and alcohol all running for their lives. Finishes with rich espresso sprinkled with. Bold flavors without being thick. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 1, 2008 375ml bottle. Pours a pitch black with minimal tan head. Nose is alcohol, black coffee, more alcohol and dark chocolate. Palate is black licorice, salty soy sauce, cocoa, coffee and a bit of a hop bite at the end. Finishes very dry. Alcohol is surprisingly hidden a lot more than I anticipated from the aroma. On the thinner side on the mouth feel. An interesting Impy, but not among my favorites. ruggedman (613), Portland, Maine, USA Apr 1, 2008 Dark super dense stout. Nice brown head. Hugely dark roasted malt aroma and flavor. Very strong alcohol flavor also, not for the faint of heart!
If you like dark roasted malt this beer is for you!
