Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Bottle at Magic_dave6’s disco dance tasting. Dark brown, thin bubbly brown head. Nose is burnt malt, some alcohol, some malty stock cube. Mouth is heavily burned malt, molasses, worcestershire sauce. Rubbery end with some spirit burn. Rather good, just needs toning down a bit.

375ml bottle. Shared by Mirjukka - thanks!
Jet black. Fizzy head is brief. Very alcoholic coffee aroma, some ginger too. Tingly in the mouth - with hot chilli and alcohol. Also fizzy. Drying and coffee-like, burnt and harsh. Odd, I thought I wanted a beer, why did you add coffee to it? Good brewers get a coffee taste just from the malt. Nothing really selling this beer to me. I hope this inane trend to lace beers with coffee beans is a short one, it’s getting terribly boring. Give me coffee in a coffee cup, and a decent unadulterated beer in the beer glass.

Shared with DocHop. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is hops, roasted malt, and what I want to say is roasted peppers. The initial sweetness moves to that roasted pepper/hops flavor. Never tasted anything quite like this. Surprisingly little coffee flavor. I can tell it is really well made, the finish is extremely clean and the ABV is very well hidden, but I’m not fully in love with the unique roasty flavor. Other than that its a great beer.

12 oz bottle. Black as can be, espresso colored head. Flavor is dark chocolate, espresso, cocoa powder. Thick bodied, chewy. Sweetness is well balanced by a nice dry roast. Slight alcohol burn at the end. Smooth like butter on the palate. This is quite a beer.

Pours a very dark brown (black hole it is indeed!) with thick dark tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet roasted malts and notes of cocoa/dark chocolate. Flavor is like chewing chocolate covered espresso beans to a tea, and done perfectly. It is so smooth that it goes down without bitter notes. Chocolate, sugar, malts and coffee combine perfectly. Body is just above medium with light carbonation. A delicious beer to sit back and enjoy. Will definitely be getting another.

Nov. 2007 - Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing. dark as night pour with decent head and even some lacing. Strong coffee aroma. Flavor was strong coffee with serious fruit and vinous notes that I didn’t find overly pleasant. The coffee, roast and chocolate were really nice, though, even though this was a bit too sweet. Nice beer.

Pours a very dark brown with a short but full light brown head. Aroma of sweet, lightly roasted caramel malts and black pepper mixed with coffee. Also some hop aroma. Taste is incredibly unique for a stout. Very sweet and almost fruity at first with a finish full of that black pepper/coffee flavor along with alcohol. The body is very creamy and hints at chocolate. Very complex flavor palate.

Ruby to black hue without a proper head. Big depth of colour though. Stronge aroma of coffee, prunes, chocolate and rum raisin cake. A barrage of espresso, alcohol, rye porridge, black currents, leather, vanilla, liquorice and oak all come together to create a stunning impression of a Zinfandel. Rosemary, perhaps even more forcefully some sappy pine, rounds out the experience. Solid sweetness throughout with moderate roast. Fairly nimble on the tongue -- especially considering the % -- with some warming alcohol. Very red wine like; fruit blows up in the flavour eventually with coffee and chocolate taking to the back for a while. Medium to heavy body with a silky texture and soft carbonation. And I had just been wondering what a beer would be like if brewed to be more like a wine... 37.5cl bottle, bbe 14/08/11, thanks Jukkabro.
