Thick black pour, brown medium head which reduces quickly but is easily agitated back to glory. Coffee - baileys aroma. Coffee-toffee-christmas pudding flavour - raisens, cherry and a large alcohol finish - PHEW! A big beer indeed, thanks for sharing Harry. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Thick opaque black pour, minimal head. Deep dry roast aroma, near-burnt, molasses and alcohol, very herbal. Taste - even more bitter, burnt cookies, dry bitterness, quite boozy at it warms, figs and long-steeped raisins, coffee grounds and nutshell bitterness. Thick, syrupy body, deeply roasty mouthfeel, astringent and increasingly boozy - lovely, really - wouldn’t drink it regularly, pretty "big." thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden

i expeced something bad from the 13.something alc, but this imperial stout is truly well crafted. One of te best beers i’ve tasted, and also one of the best stouts i’ve tasted. I’m going to go buy more of these asap - they might not last forever. chocolate, coffee, alc. and other notes are well balanced, well rounded. i’d take one of these instead of the #1 ranked beer here any day. If you like stout, you HAVE to try this one. Philip (436), Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Purchased at WLV in Chicago. Notes of espresso on the nose lead into roasted coffee, soy, vanilla, oatmeal, and anise. Impressive how well it hides its alcohol, and the mouthfeel/viscosity is pleasant. The beer is undoutedly very good, but it doesn’t hold up to the best of the coffee stouts. I found the espresso flavors a bit akin to a pot of coffee that’s been sitting on the burner a bit too long. The flavor is there, but the best of it has passed some time ago. puzzl (2599), New York, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Bottle from SoLan. I first had this in a small sample at a bar and I wasn’t crazy about it. Things are different now. This bottle I’ve got all to myself. Chewy granola, burnt maple syrup aroma. A bit chalky, resinous, only a hint of alcohol. Pours without much head and is surprisingly not completely black. Tons of flavor to this though surprisingly balanced, a lot of vanilla and cocoa and great roast. No alcohol burn at all. Thick and delicious going down. This is a way better beer than Dark Horizon. I feel like the brewers actually knew what they were doing with this one.
