franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours a pitch black motor oil with a chocolate head that is sticky and lacy. Smells like chocolate covered fruit with some expresso. Taste is hot, lots of chocolate, dark fruit and a bitter hop finish. Thick in the mouth with a nice smooth finish. A sipper and needs some age. This has a bite that will tame with a year and generous flavors that need some time to mingle. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours a dark black color with deep brown head. Aroma is kind of a let down with big nose of alcohol and citrus hop flavors. I really had to struggle to find a slight hint of chocolate or coffee. Taste is citrus hops, faint chocolate and alcohol. WTF? I was expecting more in an imperial stout brewed with COFFEE! The carbonation is mild leading to a creamy mouthfeel, and the alcohol is well hidden. It’s not bad, but just not what I was expecting with all the fanfare and price behind it. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours a dark black with a diminishing mocha head, with a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is alcohol, citrus, liquorice, and hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is rather bitter up front and finishes with a little alcohol burn and some coffee/chocolate. I find this to be an easy drinking Impy Stout, especially on the finish. I wish it had a bit less bitterness and more chocolate/coffee complexities. Aging this would probably do it more justice. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 22, 2007 Bottlle. Black body, dark tan head, coffee and chocolate in the nose. Very bitter, alcoholic, severely overrated. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Dec 21, 2007 Labeled. Bottled on August 14th 07. Danish rating # 989. Pours a totally pitch black colour with a huge well lasting bubbly and creamy brown head leaving a good lacing. Sweetish aroma of alcohol indeed with lots of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and some liquorice. Very good mouthfeel. The flavour is bitter sweet with lots of roasted malt and chocolate along with bitter coffee, some smoke, alcohol, hops, dark fruits and liquorice. Bitter, roasty, dry and softly alcoholic finish. Woooooooooo, what a brew. ILll get myself some more of this brew to store. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Dec 21, 2007 nice substantial dark tan head. aroma of coffee, chocolate, and alcohol. at first, taste is extremely sweet, and the alcohol comes on heavy, as does substantial hop bitterness. Unbalanced and not very pleasing. The finish is awesome, chocolate bar and freshly roasted coffee, but unfortunately, occurs too late to make this something special. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Dec 20, 2007 Pours pitch black with a mostly receding mocha head. Aroma of coffee, sweet roasted malt, and ethanol. Taste is sweet roasted malt, vinous, chocolate, and alcohol. Mild coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. If you’re a lightweight like me, one bottle should suffice! Actually.. One bottle might have been too much!!! Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Dec 20, 2007 mild malt aroma, sweet coffee with spritz on front of palate from carbonation. very fronted with light finish. fresh and sticky to the palate thru to aftertaste. mild sweet spice presence, and yeastie backgrounds for a coffee stout, good.
