Rich strong aroma of roasty malts and dark fruits, an interplay of bitter and sweet. Flavor is surprisingly sweet though not intensely alcoholic as I expected... with strong notes of chocolate, vanilla, and dark fruits with a slight roasty hop kick. More drinkable than I initially gave it credit for, and a nice imperial stout overall.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 3, 2009 11.7oz Bottle fom Total Wine. Pours black and extra dark like 85% cocoa. No head but none expected either. Just a light swirling layer floating on top. Smoky, roasty aroma with espresso and bitter chocolate. A faint hint of vanilla appears as it warms. Medium to full body that is a bit syrupy. Flavor is a fantastic blend of smokey roasted malt delights, dark chocolates and vanilla bean. This is an outstanding Imperial Stout. Delicate and classy decadence in a bottle. Completely impressed!!! MrManning (1652), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Bottle 1 of 2- This one thanks to Hogtownharry. Cellared for about a year. Very dark pour, black, letting no light in. Pours a thin mocha foam that leaves a constant ring around the glass. Nose is all out coffee and dark chocolate, mildly fruity, with an earthy undertone. But really, it just smells like fresh black coffee. The taste was not as coffee oriented as I suspected. Mild roasty coffee with pit fruits, some licorice, sweet burnt sugar, woodsy and earthy. Quite bitter with a good dose of hops. Finishes dry, astringent, good. Thanks Harry! royalliquors (9), Kansas City, Missouri, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Pours black, black, black. No descernible head. At 13.1%, the alcohol is really well hidden. Wood, licorice, and charcoal from the nose to the mouth and finished like a port. A sweet, full, thick beer that just goes on and on... LearninBeer (208), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Light nutty brown pour w/moderately thick & resilient mocha head, HUGE aroma w/ dried fruits, some cognac, confection, lots of other elements but little roasted malt, flavor is complex but very sweet, almost cloying, with some bitterness @ finish, mouthfeel is very smooth, velvety, alcohol is nearly imperceptible elihapa (1052), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 19, 2009 Bottle, $10.49. Pours viscous black with a thin tan head. Mature nose, a muscular chocolate-espresso, licorice, rum cake. Opening flavors are dessert-like sweet chocolate liquer, baileys, dark chocolate raspberry truffles. Am I describing a confection or a beer? And the coffee! Hits you by the mid-palate, builds into a coffee-and-cream blend with surprising clarity. The body of Black Hole is not actually as thick as one would figure, and the finish lingers lightly dry. Overall, this beer manages a rather unique take on a Imperial Stout (namely sweet, coffee n’ cream), big on flavor and smooth, oh so smooth.
