Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Pours a deep black with a medium bubbly/creamy dark tan head. Aroma of vanilla, molasses, honey, roasted malts, coffee, alcohol, lots of hops, cherry and hints of dark fruit. Flavor of roasted malts, bitter hops, coffee grinds, alcohol, vanilla, woody and some light smoke and suprisingly dry...not a whole lot of malty sweetness. Alcohol a bit intense...let this one sit.

Bottle during Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Starless midnight pour. Small brown head. Strong roasted malts, coffee notes, dark fermented fruit and soft alcohol in the nose. Taste is strong coffee (really oily coffee beans, in actuality), dark roasted malts, licorice, soft wood and booze. More fermented dark fruit flavors too. Body is chewy, thick and has a mild carbonation to it. Nice warming feel to this as well. End is more dark roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits and soft alcohol. Very tasty!

No head, just a thin film. No carbonation. Coffee and liquorice aroma. Chocolate, piney hops, extreme dryness, lika aspoon of cocoal powder. Some sourness in the finish. As far away from a low carb lager you could possibly come.

Bottle. Brought to tasting by marchcow. Thanks for sharing. Poured a nearly opaque black color with ruby red highlights. Head was brown. Aroma was of light coffee and citrusy hops with black licorice and caramel accents. Full bodied with plenty of warming alcohol and moderate hop bitterness (5-6 out of 10). Tasted of roasty coffee, brown sugar, and dark chocolate liqueur. There was also a dried fruit accent. Very solid beer.

Dark opaque, no head, small lacing. Fruity aroma, roasted malts, chocolat, some coffee, bit salty even. Very strong taste of roasted malts, dark chocolat, coffee. Palate goes on forever. Not my favorite session ale.

Opaque black colored, little beige head. Extremely rich aroma, first impression is that this is better version of Victory Storm King... Aroma has dominating hops and roasted-vanilla in nice combination, mild alcohol and licorice also here with some flowery-herbal notes and even thin whiskey-tone, maybe due to this vanilla here. Near full bodied. Flavor is even richer with again plenty of hoppy bitterness, also this herbal-flowery note here, licorice with roastiness comes up too. Aftertaste is warm with medium alcohol, still not too much of it. Very long aftertaste with hoppy-roastiness.

#900, shared with Bikesandbeer Import Bottle via trade with Ty5592, date on plastic cork 14/08/11. I actually had a dream about this beer a few weeks ago. Pours black with half finger tan light brown head. Nose is huge and full coffee, chocolate, licorice and the faintest hops. Taste is very abrupt, with lots of forward liquorice and bitter coffee and very faint chocolate. Bittterness is pretty amazing but also pretty crazy. This is pretty damn good, but the bitterness is severe. The alc is hidden by it pretty well. Hard to say what I think. Its tasty and good but what do I think? Not so sure.

Bottle shared with, and courtesy of MartinT. Minimal head. Ink black. Dark smokey dry aroma. Flavour is like sucking on a crude oil and honey sugar cube. Vanilla finish. An oily good beer.
