Black color. Nice aroma of roasted malt and hops. Good body strength, warming mouthfeel, perfect strength and balance of flavors, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt; smooth, lovely.
2006-11-02, bottle, 9-5-8-4-17=43 Black color; small brown head. Wonderful aroma, malt, roasted malt, cardboard, glue, coffee, chocolate. Strong body structure, based on the roasted malt and liquorice, with caramel, malt, chocolate, light yeast; there is also an interesting touch of strong cheese from the Alps and Fernet. Strong bitterness, with a light sourness from the roasted malt; the hopping is hidden behind the roasted malt, but it’s of good quality. Complex brew. More dynamic than other Imperial Stouts. Thanks Mikkel for the bottle. KimJohansen (7126), Copenhagen V, Denmark

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2008 (375ml bottle) Large brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, roast/coffee, chocolate, anise/cherry, light smoke, grapefruit. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, chocolate, some smoke/burnt, alcohol, grapefruit, fig. Low carbonation, full body. Definitely has some nice qualities, but the alcohol presence is too strong for me to enjoy the beer fully -- at 9% I’d probably enjoy this much more. Big roast and coffee aromas. Small beige head. Black and very strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a bitter and fruity warming coffee roast finish. harrisoni (6828), Ashford, Kent, England

Body really falls away though. Too much soy sauce for me. Thin on the tongue. Too many hops for the malts too. Really lovely aroma, but the mouthfell falls away and hot hop on end is too much. Must’ve liked it though to give it 3.8/5 TBone (6804), Pori, Finland

Opaque black (like a black hole), small expresso head. Coffeish, roasted aroma with licorice. Coffee beans, licorice, roasted malts. Dominating flavor is coffee. From the first sip alcohol hits to your face! Looooong roasted aftertaste. It is 13 % and it is easy to guess. Very warming, gimme my fireplace and glass of this stuff! Maria (6286), Thisted, Denmark
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 8, 2007 This is a truly pitch black beer with a small, but dark brown, creamy and lasting head. It’s incredibly complex from start to finish, maybe the most complex beer I ever had? Thank you Mikkel for making it possible for me to enjoy this fantastic beer as my personal rating # 2000 and my # 1000 on RateBeer!!
The aroma gives me chocolate, vanilla, light smoke/tar (in a nice way), coffee and burnt figs. The mouthfeel is completely oily. The flavour reveals something new in each sip, and it takes forever to get through the finish, that is incredibly long and exciting. The dark roasted malt has some nice, bitter notes of chocolate, tar/smoke, licorice, coffee, chalk, a smooth light vanilla sweetness, that kind of lives it’s own life in the turbulent strong notes, and yet seems to tie them nicely together. The finish is sooo looong, several minutes, and I find a nice bitterness, sweetness, ash/chalk and wood. This is amazing stuff - a piece of art in bottle - woow - I would say so much more, but I seem to run out of words describing this beer.... 2000
