Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Dutch Ratebeer gathering. Pitch-black, no head. Aroma of cherries, blackcurrant, liquorice and some yoghurt. Somewhat salty flavour with liquorice, vanilla and coffee, reminiscent of Sam Adams Triple Bock (although my fellow Dutch Ratebeerians did not agree). Alcohol is nicely hidden. Endless amounts of flavour, but for me too much is going on to appreciate it to its fullest.

375ml bottle. Pours a pitch black with minimal tan head. Nose is alcohol, black coffee, more alcohol and dark chocolate. Palate is black licorice, salty soy sauce, cocoa, coffee and a bit of a hop bite at the end. Finishes very dry. Alcohol is surprisingly hidden a lot more than I anticipated from the aroma. On the thinner side on the mouth feel. An interesting Impy, but not among my favorites.

Bottle purchased at Sam’s Blue Light. Looks like black coffee with a tan head. excellent lace. Nose has a lot of coffee, alcohol, some vanilla and some roasted malt and fresh hops.. Flavor begins with a lot of alcohol up front, a little bit of cocoa, coffee, and bitter resinous hops. The alcohol predominance kind of detracts from the mouthfeel and overall enjoyment of this ale for me.

12.7 oz bottle served in a snifter on 10/27/09 (Courtesy of ygtbsm94)-Pours a pitch black with a very small ring for a head. Aroma of soy sauce, molasses, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste of alcohol, coffee, roasted malt, and bitterness. This is fairly light in body for an Imp stout and a bit sweet. This is still very tasty but a bit off balance. Worth a try but comes in a green bottle.

Bottle, RBESG08 grand tasting.
Almost black brown body. Nose... hmm... elder? Very pleasant. Dark malts. Nice heavy malty taste, elder again, alcohol, big roasty bitterness. Way better than the Black, but it just isn’t my style.

Pours pitch black with a mostly receding mocha head. Aroma of coffee, sweet roasted malt, and ethanol. Taste is sweet roasted malt, vinous, chocolate, and alcohol. Mild coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. If you’re a lightweight like me, one bottle should suffice! Actually.. One bottle might have been too much!!!

(on bottle) I had this baby with a port from 1968 and they paired well up. The cheese on the side just addede a nutch for a great oral pleasure. Dark, rich and % are very potent. Thank god I started at Monk´s Elixir for a warm up. A part from being so rich in malt-depth, the bitterunits really balanced well. Truely a black hole to decent into...in space noone can hear you scream...

Bottle courtesy of Harlequin. Black with a small dark tan head. Big dark roasted aroma with anice and leather. Big sharp roasted flavor with an odd dirt like note. Lots of fumey alcohol but it really carried the flavors. A littlle espresso and lingering smokey trailer. Nice
