Nose is milk chocolate, coffee and molasses. Almost medium with a minimal carb tang. Flavor is huge but in need of some melding. Chocolate syrup, coffee and black jelly beans; hints of Good ’n Plenty. Veins of candied citrus and pithy grapefruit add contrast. Alcohol well-hidden despite the high ABV. Overwhelming aroma of dark roasted malts, liqour soaked fruits and lots of vanilla. Pours pitch black with very little carbonation, a tiny tan ring is barely spotted. Lots of coffee in the flavor, notes of chocolate, vanilla and brandy, reminds me a bit of some sort of vanilla/chocolate ice cream. Very intense, deliveres a small and pleasant alcohol burn to the throat. The vanilla becomes a bit cloying i think. dchmela (1458), Orlando, Florida, USA

Gorgeous aroma, very complex with hints of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, dark fruit and coffee. Very thick body that coats the glass with every swirl. Thick roasted grain coffee bitter taste with hints of dark cherry, vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Very complex, thick and smooth, a world class beer. GreatLibations (1454), Last Supper, Arizona, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 29, 2007 Nice package w/ wire and silicon cork all wrapped in silver foil. BH pours next to black with a beautiful copper head that sits there like a stubborn blister. Good lacing to boot. Aromas of pot scorched espresso, tar, a twig of molases, and roasted cherry skins. Full nectar w/ good carbonation creating an expansive cottonball soft texture. A huge roast component is the backbone for this hive. Heavily roasted blackcherry skins, espresso, charcoal, iodine, tar, leather, black pepper, licorice, wintergreen, . As it warms a sour skankiness comes out an punishes me for being so shallow at times. The finish is long like a Sleestack winter with a dose of roasted asprin. Don’t forget to put the fire out. This stuff is so stout I could hit a baseball with it. BH is everything but a black hole. It’s very generous and expansive much like our galaxy. It’s warm, personable (Sam Kinison style), inviting, and charitable. I highly recommend this brew. * It’s seems that as it rises in temerature a void (black hole) occurs where the flavors turn a little ugly. But, then as it warms more it comes right back. It drinks better cold and warm. I wish I had a temp guage, my best guess would be the black hole occurs between 45 and 50f. holdenn (1444), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours a thick black with a tall soapy tan head that collapses with lacing rings on the glass. Aroma is strong. Lots of red fruit, molasses and smoke. Apples, alcohol, and charred malts underneath. wow. Really fruity and burnt flavors. Aged leathery fruits. With layers of earthy notes, tobacco, charred/burnt malts, molasses, anise, coffee, bakers chocolate, and alcohol. The hops, alcohol, and burnt malt add a slightly harsh bitter finish mixed with anise. The fruitiness and alcohol combination detracts slightly from the brew, but with a year this will be an amazing beer. robinvboyer (1443), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

jet black pour, very dark brown head. Aroma is loaded with coffee, roasted/burnt malt, some slight ripe fruit, with alcohol in the mix. Flavour is very very roasty, a good maltiness, some very biter hops, and loads of coffee in the aftertaste with a wicked bitter finish. THe 14% is VERY well hidden, and this is a very complex but very enjoyable beer. asheft (1438), Marburg, Germany

Potent toasty malt aroma with some vanilla, light coffee and port wine notes. Also quite a bit of pumpernickel in the nose. Oily thick opaque black with tan wisps and ring. Rich, velvety roasted barley with not a small amount of hops flavour and a significant bitterness that attempts to balance quite a bit of residual sweetness. Vanilla, bourbon, pumpernickel, coffee. Excellent, if a bit on the sweet side. Medium to full body, low carbonation, lingering bitterness that is not exclusively from black malt. adrian910ss (1435), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
