Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Its funny really, I have stated my favourite style as bohemian pilsner and my current top ten consists of a porter, imperial stout, baltic porter, two abbey tripels, a barley wine, Abt/Quad, sweet stout, belgian strong and a weizen bock. Well, good bye to the Aventinus from my top ten because this one has to be lauded until the universe collapses and we all disappear into the time space continuum. So aptly named because no light could possibly escape this deep dark brooding brew from the country of Aussie Mary. Sensational presentation in the glass with a pleaseing crema that only a god barista could achieve. Nutty nose with a rummy note and mocha presence. The flavour is also a burst on the lucky tastebuds that were treated to the delight of a melange of flavours which all point to a delightful imperial stout, and quite truly reflect the brewer’s hand in his use of vanilla, molasses and coffee. The abv is noted but not in an assertive way as the balance of all the complex flavours and the strength of the brew combine with serendipity. Duff, many many thanks for bringing this along, I hope this is not to be one of those once tried and never repeated flights of brewer fancy. Comment, finally, needs also to be made in respect of the bottle. It captures the essence of the beer simply and beautifully.

Black, oily pour with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is big and heavy, sweet and chocolatey with a very sweet alcohol finish. Creamy mouthfeel, but the sweetness detracts. Coffee is really an afterthought in this one. Dude was right, about a 3.8.

Pours a deep black with thick brown head. Complex, but rather messy, aging will probably help this beer out a lot. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, sweet toffee, plum, raisins, liquorice, coffee, and piney floral hops. Lots of both malt and hops. When mellowed with age this will be an amazing stout.

Pours a dark black with a diminishing mocha head. Chocolate, roast, bitter coffee, and slight carmel on the nose. The flavour is bitter sweet with lots of roasted malt and chocolate along with bitter coffee, some smoke, alcohol, hops, dark fruits and liquorice. An excellent beer.

dark brown with one of the darker heads i’ve seen in a long time. i cannot find the coffee aroma even as i’m looking for it, only the dark roasted grain and no sharp alcohol smell. hmm, some spearmint? ah, there’s the coffee! soft at first, peaks in the middle, and fades out. not very heavy in body, and still in carbonation, but nice and tasty. the heat remains in the end of the finish. sure, i had a cigar earlier, so what? i’ll look to this beer again with an untainted palate.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours black, with a thick, brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, hops, coffee, chocolate, and a little vanilla. Flavor is coffee, hops, roasted malt, caramel, smoke, fruit, and chocolate. Medium to heavy body. This is excellent.

Thanks Hogtownharry, shared with Harry too. Thick black pour, brown medium head which reduces quickly but is easily agitated back to glory. Coffee - baileys aroma. Coffee-toffee-christmas pudding flavour - raisens, cherry and a large alcohol finish - PHEW! A big beer indeed, thanks for sharing Harry.
