Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Dark black pour with a small creamy tan head. Lots of coffee in the aroma and flavor. Actually coffee seems to dominate this one. Also hints of cocoa, dark fruit, spice, and molasses. Creamy in the mouth. Alcohol is very well hidden. Seriously smooth and drinkable.

bottle as a bonus thanks to GMCC2181. poured black with a tan head that left some spotted lacing and had some decent legs as well. aroma of caramel, dark roast, coffee, honey, and licourice. flavor followed the nose as well. had a nice slick body with no carbonation. a solid brew but i guess i was expecting more. it just didnt wow me.

Bottle on 1/31/2008. Black with mahogany highlights and a durable, medium, light brown head that leaves nice lace. Espresso aroma with definite alcohol overtones, some bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit. Full body, light carbonation, and a resinous, oily mouthfeel. Bitterness prevails, both dark malt bitterness and some spicy hop bitterness, all over a background of burnt molasses and treacle. Long, bitter finish that is more like a French roast black coffee bitterness than a hop derived bitterness.

Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Black in colour with low carbonation. Huge malt aromas with notes of sprouted cereal grains, vanilla, and herbal hopping. Again, quite malt forward in the mouth, with some roasted coffee and chocolate malts along with minty hops. Heavy in the mouth, and only slightly boozy. I was surprised how little roast character there was with this bottle (especially on the nose), but I seem to recall that it had been aged for a while, so that might explain it. Above average, but not a favorite.

Bottle. My first Mikkeller beer rated. Pours a pitch black with a dark brown head sitting rather obediently. Intense complex aroma of chocolate, caramel, fruit, licorice, vanilla, oak and alcohol. The flavour is very full bodied with a mix of chocolate, fruit, caramel, vanilla and alcohol. Thick oily mouthfeel. A mild bitter sweet finish. An extremely good beer.

375ml bottle, courtesy of Travisd13. Hi-Oh! Pours black as the night, thin, brown, somewhat creamy, little bit of lace. Smells of black coffee and alcohol. Tastes much more malty than the smell implies. Stiff black coffee and booze hit in the middle and last through the finish. Palate is thick but not super thick, good carbonation. This is a potent brew.

Bottle from West Lakeview. Pours absolutely black with brown at the edge. There’s no head, it’s almost still, a vigorous swirl shows that there is carbonation. Nose is a subdued roastiness with anise, cigar, booze and a touch of honey. Taste is nice, slight coffee notes, minimal acridity. Some of the spice and a touch of rubber come through, but it is imminently drinkable, particularly at 13.1%. Could have appreciated more coffee, though. Overall, pretty decent.
