Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Cork and Caged Bottle from Kindom Liquors Brandon. Pours black with a very small tan head that fades to a ring and leaves some lacing. Heavy aroma of roasted malt, coffee, slightly burnt caramel, alcohol, licorice, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is the same as aroma but more prominent. Full slightly oily mouthfeel with a good amount of bitterness and very well hidden alcohol. This may be the best Imperial Stout I have ever had to date.

375 ml bottle shared with Lubiere, served cool in a goblet.

App.: Deep cola brown with ruby hints, tiny light mocha head. Aroma: An assault on the nostrils! Big black pepper, green resinous hops, some black coffee and dark chocolate, smokey. Palate: Medium-full body and sparse carbonation. Flav.: Very aggressive green peppercorns, huge amounts of resinous hops, some sweet malts but they are struggling; very spicy, quite bitter, biting and young; oily and mouth-coating..

ENORMOUS and needs to age I think.

New bottle. Pours deep brown with a medium head. Aroma of espresso and dark roasted malts. A big, big beer; espresso, dark fruits, licorice, roasted malts and grassy hops. Heavy body and chewy. There is some hint of the high ABV. A little warm. But classy.

Nice thick black pour with tan head and great speckled lacing. Smell is roasted malt and has a definite hops presence as well. Flavor is malty but also quite hoppy - especially in the finish. Palate is average - less thick and creamy than most Imperial Stouts and has a higher level of carbonation than I expected. Alcohol becomes present in the aroma as it warms and only slightly in the taste. Overall, pretty darn good (but not the best).

A mostly black pour with a little bit of brown on the edges. Light head. The aroma has some nice coffee and malt going on with caramel and charcoal as well. It actually smells creamy. Unfortunately I did not care for the flavor as much as I thought I would. Coffee was present and it was well mixed with the malts. There was also a good bit of bitter chocolate but it seemed to be mixed with a touch of saltiness that I found misplaced and distracting. Semi-dry full body. Not bad, but certainly not as good as it was hyped to be.

37,5cl. BBE 14/08/11, had this for a year. Pitch black, tiny coarse and disappearing tanned head. Nose is soy sauce, ammonium salmiak, little booze, huge amount of soy. Flavor is molasses, licorice, burned malts, coffee beans and soy sauce, a bit mentholey Super salmiakki finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation, surprisingly light palate. At least this bottle was a lot less in balance than the Black. Should really try again.

Bottle 55/100. Black pour with a tan head. Very smokey aroma with a malt sweetness to it. Coffee and spice. Spice and some spice. Dry and slightly astringent. Very good.
