Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

37,5cl. BBE 14/08/11, had this for a year. Pitch black, tiny coarse and disappearing tanned head. Nose is soy sauce, ammonium salmiak, little booze, huge amount of soy. Flavor is molasses, licorice, burned malts, coffee beans and soy sauce, a bit mentholey Super salmiakki finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation, surprisingly light palate. At least this bottle was a lot less in balance than the Black. Should really try again.

Bottle shared by Leems. Pours black as the depths of hell with a moderate brown head. Aroma is a nice roastiness filled out by coffee and booze with some light chocolate. Flavor is much the same, it’s decently boozy and the roasted malts and coffee flavor really balance each other out. Very pleasing brew, I like what I’ve been having from Mikkeller.

Bottle 55/100. Black pour with a tan head. Very smokey aroma with a malt sweetness to it. Coffee and spice. Spice and some spice. Dry and slightly astringent. Very good.

Bottlle. Black body, dark tan head, coffee and chocolate in the nose. Very bitter, alcoholic, severely overrated.

12.7oz bottle - traded for in November 2007: Coal black pour with a thin beige head. Intense aroma of vanilla bean, sweet fudge, brownie, bourbony plums. A slight oxidized note rides on top - adding to the mix actually. Thick, chewy body. Wow - the high ABV hits the stomach before anything else. Tongue numbing in fact. A nice layer of bitter coffee, sweet fudge and vanilla bean lays beneath in a nice balance. Hmm, interesting and heavy hitting but not as complex as I would have expected. Still, very good.

Flaske.

Took the family to the Habachi for some family fun and busted this out. Black with no head. Roasted malt, chocolate, light dark fruits, and wine are the aroma and taste. Light coffee and sour wine notes show throughout in this beer. The first IM Stout my wife actually liked!! Great!! Now, when I buy it I’ll hide it so she doesn’t drink it all the hell up.

12.7oz bottle from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). synthetic cork marked 14/08/11. Poured very deep brown, capped with a moderate sized dark tan head that diminished quickly. Rich, roasted coffee aroma, with bittersweet chocolate, malt, and green chili pepper. Big roasted malt and espresso flavor, with accents of molasses, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. Oily, citric hop finish. Interesting beer.
