Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

12.9 oz bottle rating. Pour is pure blackness, there’s no seeing through this beer. A nice creamy brown head settles above the tar. Very nice aroma of roast, vanilla, raisin, dark chocolate. Flavor is really coffee forward, with most of the other complexities noticed in the aroma taking a back seat. Alcohol is totally masked, with the exception of a nice warming feeling experienced in my stomach. For such a rich beer, this is very drinkable. The one downside is that the coffee is maybe a little overpowering. However, as I sip on this and the temp warms, I notice some other flavors become assertive. Very good beer. I can see some similarities between this and Speedway Stout (which is probably my favorite Impy Stout of all time).

Yea its black allright, with close to no head. The one there is is brown and disappears really fast. The first thing that comes to mind in the aroma is coffee along with a sharp alchohol and some sweet notes like toothpaste? Palate is thick, flavor heavy burned and roasted, again with a sharp alchohol burn and an extremly bitter finish.

Bottle at Toncatchers. Thanks to lagunitasfan for bringing this. A black pour with a minimal tan head. The aroma was of dark fruits and some coffee. The taste was more of the same, lots of complex coffee and mocha with a touch of anise. The mouthfeel was full and smooth. The finish long and sticky. Overall: another winner from Mikkeller.

I was rather impressed with this beer - it’s big and there’s a lot in there. At first, when it wsa cold, I thought this beer was simple, but once it warmed it revealed a lot of different elements in both smel and flavor. Appearance was a dark opaque black, with very little tan head. Aroma started off as just being a bit roasty with some very mild sourness, but as it warmed other aromas began to emerge. I got more roastiness, some chocolate, some brown sugar, and some liquorice. Flavor was also rather roasty, and I got a lot of molasses and a good helping of liquorice. Mouthfeel was pretty thick. SurlySober and I compared this beer to Big Eddy RIS, but I thought it less roasty, less coffee-like, and far more molasses-like. However, they are both "big" and very good beers. Mouthfeel was pretty thick...also somewhat molasses-like. I would highly recommend this beer. A big thanks to SurlySober for sharing the bottle he received from LiquidSolutions.

Bottle. The aroma is strong, coffee , malt and dark chocolate. A nice smell. The head is nearly non existing, brown and fizzy. The body is black. The taste is bitter, strong and malty. The duration is very long. Not much carbonation, the body is strong, heavy and dry-creamy. Nice Stout.

Pour a dark, if thin, brown color with some ruby highlights and a short tan to brown in color head. Minimal flecks of lace. The aroma was hops, coffee, light chocolate and some vinous notes. The flavor was roasted coffee, faint pine hops, faint chocolate and some vinous hints. On the dry side, avoids the cloying sweetness. The mouthfeel was thin to medium in body and the finish was abrupt. Decent.

Meh. Sort of too dark for effective tasting. Granted it was my third at the Ueber-Tavern, but my impression is that is very dense like Dark Force only without that last minute coffee zing to bring the taste back from dirt. Somebody even mentioned Dark Force at the bar that night... curious...
