Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Bottle. Black and viscous with a beige head. Aromas are roast coffee with lots of herbal and peaty smokiness. Light berries with dark chocolate. Flavours are berries and coffee with sweet caramel and raisins. Bready yeast with dark chocolate. Very boozy in a nice way. Good stuff.

Rating #1000. From bottle #5. Pours a black colour with no head. Sweet roasted malty coffee aroma with some hints of vanilla and chocolate. Roasted malty, hoppy, coffee and chocolate flavor. Also vanilla in the flavor. Dry hoppy coffee and malty aftertaste. A very nice beer.

50 cl Bottle from Capone’s. Onyx pour with 2-finger dark brown head and great lacing. Aroma is dark roasty malt, huge coffee, molasses, and dark chocolate. The palate is rich, roasty, with a huge dark malty flavor mixed with heavy coffee and dark chocolate. The coffee seems to get more subdued throughout, and this one never got hot, which is a plus. This is a very good beer.

A deep dark stout with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, dark chocolate with black pepper notes, coffee beans, very rich. In mouth, a sharp aggressive IS, with chocolate, again the black pepper coming out, licorice, vanilla, and loads of alcohol. Kicks like a mule, as Karl would say. A wonderful IS which will improve with age. Taste July 5 with Probstk. Bieropholie imports.

2 months old bottle: Jet black with a small and bubbly, long lasting brown head. Lots of hops and alcohol in the aroma, with chocolate, oats, dried fruits, some port and licorice. The flavour is raw and powerful, in your face impy stout. Dry, lots of roast malt, alcohol, hop and burned malt bitterness, and a little sourness. Aftertaste is burning alcohol and roast malt. Very promising for cellaring, but not perfect yet... 2 year old bottle in 2009: The hops are more subdued, and the alcohol softer and more vineous. Port and dried fruit, with a little cold coffee underneath. In the flavour, alcohol is still a little dominating, but the vulgar amount of roasted flavours and coffee is certainly enough to match the alcohol.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, dark brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black (opaque, flashlight tested), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, molasses, husks), lightly to moderately yeasty (dough), lightly hoppy (resin). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/creamy texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Gotta be honest; despite my two sampling pals’ gushing over this one, it did nothing for me. Lots of vitamin B yeast smell in the nose and not much complexity as far as I could find. Not enticing at all to me, sorry.

Very black body with a khaki colored head. The aroma was dark chocolate with some coffee. There were also sweet fruity notes of pancakes and peaches. The taste was some lightly bitter coffee with some dark chocolate. There was a definite raspberry note in the finish. The body was amazingly light and smooth for the abv. Nicely made and fairly balanced compared to many Impy Stouts I have tried. A winner.
