Aroma of vanilla beans, roasted malts, chocolate, light floral hops, and some citrus as well. Taste of chocolate malts, anise, roast, dark fruits, caramel, smoke, with hops, and an alcoholic finish. gunnfryd (3615), Kristiansand, Norway

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Updated: Dec 13, 2007Graciously shared by Brewfiend. Black color with no head. An almost salty aroma with some spearmint and herbal qualities. Again, a fairly herbal taste with plenty of English and Noble hop. Dry malt and roasted character, but subdued. Very, very little of the coffee and chocolate flavor I would expect. I find it almost funny how different my tasting of it was from JK and Skyview considering we had the same bottle. 7/4/7/3/15 Re-rate 12/13/07: Very odd... just a few weeks later and at a Cellar’s tasting again, this beer changes. A much heavier roasted barley and coffee aroma and taste. This is more like what I figured the beer would be like. gnoff (3576), Göteborg, Sweden

Strong roasted sweet licorice taste, also rubber. First taste almost overwhelms, in a good way. Rich mouthfeel, high bitterenss. FatPhil (3483), Espoo, Finland

Jet black. Fizzy head is brief. Very alcoholic coffee aroma, some ginger too. Tingly in the mouth - with hot chilli and alcohol. Also fizzy. Drying and coffee-like, burnt and harsh. Odd, I thought I wanted a beer, why did you add coffee to it? Good brewers get a coffee taste just from the malt. Nothing really selling this beer to me. I hope this inane trend to lace beers with coffee beans is a short one, it’s getting terribly boring. Give me coffee in a coffee cup, and a decent unadulterated beer in the beer glass. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Bottle that I purchased in Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark, Sept 08. This beer poured black, really black, grimping mire black with a brown head. There is an immediate intense bitterness to this which you sense over the hand rubbed hoppy aroma that comes straight from this. There is also some burnt maltiness and liqourice. The aromas are replicated in the mouth but rather alarmingly I dont get as excited and whilst I can appreciated the effort that has gone into this beer after saving it for a few months I feel a bit disappointed, Loz on the other hand loves it. I keep on sipping this and wonder if it is me just tiring of these hoppy Impy Stouts. I try again and get a real bitterness along with the liqourice, some dark coffee, and bitter, bitter chocolate but the hops come in like a bull in a china shop and bludgeon the life out of everything else. This is a good beer with a touch more subtlety it could have been great. A8 A4 F6 P3 OV 13 3.4
