| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 28, 2009 Dark, dark dark, with thick, deeply creamy head.. Profound aroma of malt, expresso, flowers, and dust, with a completely unique combination of flavors that add sweetness and brightness to these dark aromas, with additional hints of red grapefruit, kiwi, mango, chocolate, over ripe grapes, luxurious oak and ash. Loved it and must share it. yumyum (124), barrie, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 13, 2008 one of the better beers I’ve had. had with black. black and black hole similar on the nose. Pours black with tan head. Both had an amazing aroma which I can’t quite place(the black slightly more winey and powerful) Of the two this was more a beer while the black kicked it up a notch to almost a port status. Definite coffee in the flavour with perhaps citrus notes. Paired with some blue stilton. Alcohol warming but not offensive. A very nice beer. changeup45 (799), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Sampled from a 12.7 ounce corked bottle, the same bottle used for their barleywine. This pours heavy and black with a nice relatively thick tan head, especially considering the high abv, that settles to a thin layer. The aroma consists of a whole lot of chocolate with coffee and alcohol soaked raisins with some vanilla too. There’s some alcohol heat to this but it’s not out of control, very roasty but also a soft creamy taste to balance that which I enjoyed. Flavors mostly cocoa, coffee, bourbon notes and maybe a bit of molasses with the chocolate strong up front and bourbon and molasses finishing this thing off with the coffee always lurking. This isn’t cheap but very good and an excellent evening sipper. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Bottle. This beauty poured a deep dark black with minimal tan head. Aromas...WOW, tons of coffee, mocha, and roasted malts jump out of the glass and up your nose. Palate was very smooth with nice body. The flavors were very nice coming back to the coffee, espresso, mocha, roasted malts with a touch of hops at the end. Alcohol was very well hidden. Absolutely fantastic, I am surprised this is only an 83% for the style. mikalooch (171), , New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with beige head. Aroma is heavy on the chocolate and malt with a sweet undertone. Flavor is intense, very suprising for the mild aroma. Starts sweet, molasses, chocolate, and roasted malt, finishes with coffee and a bit of biterness, nicely balanced though. Alcohol is almost invisible, at 13% that is astonishing. Sticky thick mouthfeel. Excellent. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2007 Pours black with a tall tan head. Nose of sweet coffee, very fresh and floral, almost like coffee ice cream. Flavors of port, coffee, chocolate, licorice, charred and almost smokey at times. Very smooth palate, very lilttle alcohol for such a big beer. This is one of those beers that is amazing without aging it and will probably be even more amazing with age. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

Black color. Nice aroma of roasted malt and hops. Good body strength, warming mouthfeel, perfect strength and balance of flavors, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt; smooth, lovely.
2006-11-02, bottle, 9-5-8-4-17=43 Black color; small brown head. Wonderful aroma, malt, roasted malt, cardboard, glue, coffee, chocolate. Strong body structure, based on the roasted malt and liquorice, with caramel, malt, chocolate, light yeast; there is also an interesting touch of strong cheese from the Alps and Fernet. Strong bitterness, with a light sourness from the roasted malt; the hopping is hidden behind the roasted malt, but it’s of good quality. Complex brew. More dynamic than other Imperial Stouts. Thanks Mikkel for the bottle.
