Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Had this aged for a half a year and this kicked the shit out of dark horizon’s second edition pretty easily. Pitch black stuff, small mocha head. Strong coffee aroma hits my nose when you are pouring it, I also got some vanilla in the process. Huge beer, the espresso like aroma is gigantic. Taste is suprisingly soft, this is a coffee drinkers heaven. This is an extreme beer, molasses, alcohol, malt, chocolate, hops, dark fruits, ash ja alcohol. So much taste in a mouthfull that it is almost ridiculous. Brilliant stuff.

Outstanding! It’s a big beer, but doesn’t carry the bite of a big beer. Is sort of on the sweet side, but still has a little of that bitter finish to it. A very great imperial stout.

12.7 oz bottle. this may be one of the most inspiring beers I’ve had the pleasure to drink. It starts with a smokey sweet fragrance with coffee and roasted barley scents. The only way to describe the appearance is darker than night with a full dark head. It sips like liquid gold. It has a flavor of coffee with an almost honey taste. It has virtually no bitterness yet despite that it is both well balanced and overwhelming in a good way. Find it and enjoy a singular beer.

22 oz bottle #43 of 100. Huge thanks to sk8viking for this bottle. wonderful aromas of coffee, chocolate and coffee. Roastiness comes through as well, and so does quite a bit of coffee. Black coffee on the flavor as well. More roastiness. Excellent hop finish. One of the best Impy stouts i have ever had.

#1100!! Courtesy dsnowden. Thanks a ton for sharing this with me Dan, and for giving me such a generous pour!! Cheeseman strikes again! Pours pitch black, oily, with a smallish, swirly, light brown head. Rich and thick looking. The smell was just awesome. So rich and roasty with subtle chocolate notes, maybe some light vanilla, and syrupy malts. Delicious. Give me a damn sip. The flavor is hugely rich, thick as hell, with such great body. The chocolate seems to arrive more in the flavor to my delight. Great balance as the 14% was only slightly noticeable. Huge roasty finish that seemed to linger into eternity. It took me a while to finish this as I savored every last drop. Thanks again Dan for sharing this beauty. I loved every minute of it!

Imagine spending a long wintery night with the number one woman of your dreams, thinking life could never get anywhere as good as that again, only for the very next night number two on that list rings up and says "how about it big boy?". Well, following up from the Good King Henry Special Reserve it would take an absolute bottler of a beer to bring me out of my stupor, and this was certainly the beer to do it. Although both strong imperial stouts, they differed quite markedly. The presence of tangy citric hops allows this rich and powerful beast of a beer to be buoyed up, preventing it being bogged down as some of this style can be. The long ingredient list at the top of this page gives an idea of what to expect, and the blend works remarkably well. Another fantastic beer brought all the way down south by duff - thanks a million mate.

C-Bus 7 Bottle with a huge thanks to madsberg: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, some coffee, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts, brown sugar. Flavor, chocolate, coffee, some dark fruits, roasted malts, with a nice bitter finish. Full bodied, great stuff.

This is my rating number 100 - and to celebrate that this one has to go out to Mikkeller. I chose to rate Black Hole because I believe that Mikkel is brewing some of the best imperial stouts there is - and maybe this is not the very best but it is still a heavy weight champion. This one is from the new batch 2008. Here goes..im popping the 35 cl champange bottle (Isn´t Mikkeller by the way the only one using champange-bottles besides the Belgian Lambic-brewers?) What a beauty - it poursa black body with a huge fluffy dark brown head... and the head stays.... The nose is sweet and a little vinoes - heavy hoppy notes and roasted malts, coffee and burned malts with som dry raisins maybe. The mouthfull is huge with a sparkling warm and creamy/fat palate. with a biting finish due to the amound of hops. It has a dark sweetness and I taste burned coffee-beans, brown sugar, roasted malts, plumps and dry fruits with the bitterness from the american hops in the end. This is a meal in its self - Is the appetizder, the main course and the dessert - (you could add some whipped cream on top for the dessert). I believe that this new batch is more balanced and smooth than the batch from 07.
