Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

375 ml bottle via trade with DocLock - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a quarter finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is quite pleasant. It’s floral, light coffee, and esters and a touch of licorice as it warms. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate, and a hint of dark esters. I generally try not to use the word "complex" when describing beer, but this one fits the description. Palate is oh so slightly dry. A tad bit of bitter lingers on the tongue. There is also a bit of alcohol warming. Takes the chill off! Medium to full body. An excellent beer. Thanks Jeff

Courtesy of Papsoe. The aroma has burnt molasses, brown sugar, grahm cracker, dark chocolate, coffee and malt in an insanely high concentration. It pours a high viscosity black color and the head, which is a very dark mocha brown, fades fairly rapidly, but retains some semblance of an actual head. It is almost menacing looking it is so dark. <P> The first sip is dark chocolate mixed with pan-seared grahm cracker, cocoa powder, brown sugar, molasses, blueberry skins, rum soaked cherries and lots of boozy notes. In retrospect this would have benefited from another year in the bottle, but it is amazing right now and I owed it to Boboski to share it for opening something super rare with me. Great stuff. They should definitely brew it again.

Poured black with a dark brown head. Rich strong aroma of roasty malts and dark fruits, an interplay of bitter and sweet. Flavor is surprisingly sweet though not intensely alcoholic as I expected... with strong notes of chocolate, vanilla, and dark fruits with a slight roasty hop kick. More drinkable than I initially gave it credit for, and a nice imperial stout overall.

Bottle at No 5. Guest Mikkel Bjergsøe. Black with a large brown head. Aroma moderate malty (licorice, coffee, oatmeal), heavy hoppy. Flavor light sweet, heavy bitter, long duration. Full body, almost flat.

Bottle courtesy of kleyland, shared with kleyland and alexanderj at the GA-CA-VA-NY-MA pre-NYE Extravaganza Day 2. Pours a pitch black color. Thin, dark tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee and soy sauce. Flavor was quite tasty. Coffee and roasted malts with a silky, smooth body. Alcohol was nicely hidden. Best beer of Day 2.

Holy hole! Incredible deep black with coffee head. Notes of extremelyness. Burned syrup, toffee, burned and heavy roasted malt, licorice, vanilla, plums, coffeechocs, "hot" burning alcohol, a winterwarmer for hours, close to the limit, wood, mint, orangechocs, fresh noseyeast and burning finish. Will buy one for cellaring!

Pours a med dense dark-chocolate brown, espresso tan "black hole" head and chestnut highlights. Aroma is dark fruit over dark roast malt, with evident alcohol and a little hops and coffee. Taste is bright but not abrasive hops over silky rich malt that is seriously set off by dry, winey dark roast coffee of decent quality, and a hoppy-chocolatey bitter finish. Feel is a little dry but rewardingly liqueur -like with fruits, chocolate and coffee impressions. Dryness hangs on the palate. I like the balance yet am astonished how desensitized I am to beers that present like complex wines, such as Black Hole does. Perhaps not an easy beer for some. Hole-y stout, I am in fact drinking this warm...

Bottle from the wife for Christmas gift. Alcohol on the nose along with an unique aroma couldn’t figure out but thought of smell of new leather jacket. Sweet roasted malt flavor along with a sweet licorice candy flavor as well. Smotth on the palate concidering the alcohol presence in the beer. Has warming effect on the body and may need to have some asprin handy.
