Commercial Description:
Finally! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer in the heavyweight category.

Pitch black with a thick mocha head with good retention and lacing. Aroa is sweet, with a ton of chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is chocolate, cream, caramel, vanilla, roasted malt, alcohol, hops and a bitter finish. Full body with a creamy mouthfeel. Excellent!

Bottle. Pours with a black color and a small head. The coffee aromas stream right ouf of the glass, in addition to some blueberry notes and chocolate. First sip the alcohol comes through very obviously but then vanilla, cocoa and coffee together with some dried berries flavors are taking over. Finishes with a distinct bitterness.

Rerate, 50cL bottle, sample #11 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Pours a murky, chocolate brown color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of boozy dried red fruits and citrus / grapefruit hoppiness in the aroma; oily red fruit. Tons of dense, dried red fruits in the mouthfeel; boozy fruits, a yeastiness coming through; emphasis on fruit and grapefruit. Strong, chewy hop presence. 8.4.8.4.15=3.9

Rating #200. TITW Part Deux - 50cL bottle (#46/100) courtesy of sk8viking. Thanks, Rene!! Ridiculously dark center; dark tan head. Very aromatic nose: slightly funky, chocolate, sweet port, vegetal notes. Huge, viscous, bitter-chocolate mouthfeel: toasty vanilla, dark chocolate, licorice, long lingering bitterness; charred and burnt malts. Long bitter chocolate finish with plenty of vanilla oak. Incredibly dense and aromatic. 8.4.9.5.18=4.4

Sampled at dickinsonbeers gathering on 12-28. opaque black in color. Aroma is tons of roast and chocolate, a moderate amount of alcohol, light notes of soy sauce and molasses. Taste is very roasty with alot of chocolate, some burnt sugars and molasses, and somewhat hot with ethanol. Medium to full body, finishes with alot of roast, chocolate, and some alcohol burn. This is going to be awesome once it mellows. Thanks goes out to whoever shared this bottle!

Green glass, corked and caged. Nose is surprisingly hoppy for an impy, otherwise draped in licorice and anise; a deep, heavy roast with plenty of salt and perhaps too much black malt. Excellent espresso notes. Pitch pour with a rocky but short-lived dark brown head. Taste is both brusque and burlesque, dark and bone-dry, bitter and extremely biting really rips into the throat, and thats not from alcohol. Really one for the big boys to play with. Lesser anice and licorice and salt, but still cruelly potent. Full body with evident alcohol. Aftertaste is likewise brutal and viciously dry, with a nice, long coating of espresso. The name is certainly well-chosen. Not as satisfying or drinkable as, say, the Dark Lord I had a week ago, but still pretty amazing!

Labeled. Bottled on August 14th 07. Danish rating # 989. Pours a totally pitch black colour with a huge well lasting bubbly and creamy brown head leaving a good lacing. Sweetish aroma of alcohol indeed with lots of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and some liquorice. Very good mouthfeel. The flavour is bitter sweet with lots of roasted malt and chocolate along with bitter coffee, some smoke, alcohol, hops, dark fruits and liquorice. Bitter, roasty, dry and softly alcoholic finish. Woooooooooo, what a brew. ILll get myself some more of this brew to store.

bottle via MrManning, thanks! jet black pour, very dark brown head. Aroma is loaded with coffee, roasted/burnt malt, some slight ripe fruit, with alcohol in the mix. Flavour is very very roasty, a good maltiness, some very biter hops, and loads of coffee in the aftertaste with a wicked bitter finish. THe 14% is VERY well hidden, and this is a very complex but very enjoyable beer.
