Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Big dark black/brown opaque pour with a thin brown head. Huge aroma....frankly, I enjoyed the aroma more than the flavor---but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it! Reminded me of DFH WWS a bit. The last few raters hit it right...lotsa roasted malt....vanilla, chocolate, burnt malt....alcohol, woody, some dark fruits....it really works your palate out hard. Great full body.....definitely my idea of a great beer to sip over the course of an entire evening.......would love to have again.

Very rich roasty malts, burnt wood, a little smoke and a big warming effect. Burnt wood and alcohol finish on this, the last of three awesome beers this New Years morning. Good beer!

Black colored brew. Chocolate, coffee in the aroma. Intense liquorice, coffee bitterness. Dark chocolate. A bit too much liquorice maybe.

From the bottle this pours a thick-as-oil dark brown that turns black in the glass, capped but briefly by a slender brown head. The roasty aroma has some dark chocolate, licorice root, bitter coffee, a light caramel sweetness, and a slight touch of floral hops. Very smooth in the mouth, and it’s here that the warmth of alcohol first reveals itself. All merges artfully in the flavor, the hop bitterness perhaps being more assertive, and a peppery sensation from the alcohol coats the tongue. The finish is bitter and dry with a solid alcohol burn. Not as complex as I had expected, but in an odd way that adds to the enjoyability of the ale.

Yet another solid Mikkeller. Creamy. Black. Roast taste. Lovely all around. I’m drinking a heavy stout like this in the summer. That’s right. Summer. So sue me.

Black pour, tan head, moderate lacing and retention. Aroma is roast, coffee, lesser chocolate and moderate hops. Somewhat vinous with hints of darker fruits. In the end, the coffee flavor dominates. Full bodied, lightly sweet. Alcohol hidden really well. Solid, best beer I’ve had from them so far.

Suprising nose of noble hops dominate the roast and cold coffee. Interesting. Mouthfeel is rich and oily that just borders glycerin. Palate entry reminds me of a late-harvest Zinfandel, as crazy as that sounds. And thats the way it seems to finish, albeit an earthy (by way of malt) and spicy hop finish. The alcohol is held well in check but could stand to intergrate in the cellar. Damn this was pricey, but worth tasting at least once. Worked well with the currant and hazelnut bittersweet chocolate.

No head, just a thin film. No carbonation. Coffee and liquorice aroma. Chocolate, piney hops, extreme dryness, lika aspoon of cocoal powder. Some sourness in the finish. As far away from a low carb lager you could possibly come.
