Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a dark muddy and murky black with no head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of booze, wood, smole, ripe dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar. Flavor is roasted and malty with notes of coffee, booze, bourbon, vanila, wood, smoke, some light floral hops in the background. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing roasted malt finish.

Pure brown black beerness, a strange ambivalence of intensive unsamplelike taste nd this coffeeshop tendency, but its name wins

Stellar beer. Had been looking forward to opening this beer all weekend and I was not disappointed. Dark pour with coffee and chocolate notes that hit your nose as you pour. Coffee with slight chocolate notes on the tongue. Brilliant.

Bottled: Pours black, no head. Salty liquorice, chocolate and coffee on the nose. Rich mouth-feel. Flavour is roasted liquorice that somehow is sweet and salty at the same time. Very good and quite intense.

2007 Bottle. Poured into a big brandy snifter. The color is a bright glossy black with a swirly head of deep dark tan. The aroma is is pretty mild. I can smell some bitter coffee and dark chocolate; just a touch of alcohol. The flavor is a match of the aroma. A smooth blend of bitter coffee and dark roasted chocolate. There is a bitter nature to this stout, but at the same time I can’t say the flavors aren’t well blended and smooth on the delivery. The 14% alcohol is nowhere to be seen. The body is there, but I wouldn’t have guessed 14%, I would have guessed 8 or 9. That fact alone is impressive. I guess I’m undecided on this beer. The quality is more than evident, but where is the standout that makes it a top-notch beer?

Bottle. Black beer with a brown head. Malty, chocolate, coffee aroma with backing hops. Rich dark malt flavor with backing coffee and balancing hops. A bit of chocolate showing. Nothing overpowering - great balance with bitterness in background. Lingering malt, coffee, bitter hops. Good beer.
