Oh well, it has been a fairy tale 3 days in Rome, with everything going as perfectly as they could. And now, thanks to John at Johnnys Off License, a great beer to end the trip. I know it is not an Italian, those are going home with me. Bottle, pours lightly thick and jet black. The head is very dark tan and dissapates slowly, but laces. This is how a RIS should look. One sniff and I know I will like it. Dark malt, expresso, and bakers chocolate, with a hint of mollassis. Yum, first sip, heaven. The mouth is perfect. Creamy with flavors of sweet chocolate, bitter expresso, and some hop presence. Just delicious. Slighly more sweet that I like, but I will not complain. Everything flows well, this is a powerful beer. ISO! Mogwai (218), Askeby, Denmark

Aroma is coffee, roasted/burnt, chocolate, malt. Flavor is again coffee, burnt, very spicy and VERY alcoholic!! Pilsner hops gives it a slight bitter finish TavisKirgg (2), Columbus, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Pours dark brown/black with a nice brown head that kinda just sits thin on top of the beer. Smells like coffee does in an old-folks home, plus marshmallow? Though I don’t smell the alchohol I can taste it and feel it in the nose, down my throat, not unpleasant. Tastes of coffee kinda salty and roasted even peppery, not very sweet fairly bitter. It’s a great brew to drink when you thought you’ve tasted it all. I will have to age this one for sure.
P.S. Yes it’s the same rating but the error will be corrected, my mistake MrGGen (243), Italy

The beer looked wonderful in the glass, black as sin with a very small but creamy foam. The aroma was very inviting. Roasted tones, a lot of coffee, chocolate, sweet malt. Oh, what a wonderful aroma!
The taste was also exceptionally pleasant. Coffee but not as much as in the aroma, chocolate. A lot of raisin and dark berries, vanilla and roasted malt. The body was not screaming heavy but medium plus. Not very carbonated. Very nice beer to drink, there was a lot of other flavor nuances that are difficult to really describe. Blackhole felt surprisingly soft in the mouth. Yes, a real treat that reminded of port wine.

Shared with the Sydney guys in early January. Dark, black appearance. Plenty of roasted malt in the aroma, nice rich aroma. This is very full-bodied, with a long roasty flavour, with hints of mocha/coffee, chocolate and also some nice citric hoppy notes towards the finish. Quite charcoaly aswell, quite burnt. Beautiful, big, rich, and round mouthfeel, with a flavour which seems to go on forever. Beautiful. MrRain (436), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 9, 2008 Bottled & poured into a snifter. MBH. What is there to say? This is a top-notch beer. It is a bit sweeter than I expected but not in a bad way. This beer is not exceptionally sweet but has a lot of complex flavors that evolve as it warms. Licorice, tulip leaves, butterscotch, coffee, vanilla and maybe even cherry come through. It is as thick as engine oil, exits with a final bitter kick in the throat and leaves an oily dream behind.
