CelticBrew (469), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Feb 24, 2008 My treat, shared with my good friends at Steve’s house, Dougboy and DrBayern, etc. Poured black, appearance is on an oily, sludge beer. Flavour is of a smooth, yet bitter Impy Stout. Burnt coffee beans, deep dark chocolate malts with a particular hop ending. Extremely impressive beer from our friends in Denmark!
MrChopin (172), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 5, 2008 Oily swirl and small tan ring sitting atop the black body. The nose is malt strong with licorice and slight dark fruit, like plums. Flavor has some coffee, roast malt, alcohol, a little vanilla. Palate is quite thin and watery for such a big beer. Again, not very impressed with Mikkeller, and another big beer that I find over-pronounced and overrated. NoiZe (905), Zeist, Netherlands Sep 4, 2008 Black colored brew. Chocolate, coffee in the aroma. Intense liquorice, coffee bitterness. Dark chocolate. A bit too much liquorice maybe. demitriustown (579), Macomb, Michigan, USA Aug 30, 2008 12.7 oz bottle: Aroma is floral but dirty. Muddy malt characteristics meld with a syrupy chocolate note that comes across as a truffle, nice caramel notes with a undertone of day old campfire clothes, some dark raisin notes, a really roasty note finishes off the aroma. No scratch that some very light fruity hop notes coming through as well. Really nice aroma to say the least. Appearance is dark black with a minimal tan head that lingers around for a while. Taste is mouth filling. Transforming with every sip. Wonderful roasted malt, chocolate, liqour, and caramel. A very nice Impy stout. I like this alot!! Cheers!! EHSRanders (702), Randers C, Denmark Aug 30, 2008 Rating no. 700. Bottle. Black colour with medium creamy brown mostly diminishing head. Aroma is roasted malt with strong notes of coffee. Spicy flavor. Well balanced. Oily palate. darn1207 (258), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 My birthday beer... well, I’ve had a few birthday beers already - but this is the one I’ve been saving for the occasion. bottle from peabody’s in boone. Just noticed it has a date of 8/14/11 on the cork -- so didn’t really let this one age I guess. pours black with a medium brown head. aroma of alcohol, coffee, ginger and prunes. first thought on taste is: thick palate and long coffee/alcohol burn. other thoughts: butter, roasty, molasses, chocolate, black cherries, malts. kinda has a wine vibe to it. it’s definitely an experience. good one to sip, analyze and enjoy.
