GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland Sep 3, 2006 [bottle at Hacket] Aroma is nettles with some citric touches and some soft toffeeish malt. full body, lots of bitterness. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Aug 30, 2006 Aroma is hoppy, with citruis and caramel coming off the malts. Taste is similar and very drinkable with a good dry finish that begs you for more. henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark May 13, 2006 Dark golden, huge light brown to white head, beautiful laces; huge super nice nose, loads of hop with some very distinctive exotic fruit like not yet ripe pineapple, at the same time as being quite dry; Super bitter body mellowing a bit into a super long bitter dry hop, dry pine-like finish that could be greater. Thanks a lot Mikkel for sharing this one, I am very happy to have had the opportunity to taste another of your fantastic IPA’s. CaptainCougar (5374), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 24, 2006 Bottle thanks to BierKönig: Clear copper orange color with a thin-lacing wispy white head. Aroma isn’t as assertive as the Simcoe or Amarillo versions and has some earthy grassy character with mild orange citrus notes and caramel malt. Body starts with nice earthy malty sweetness balanced with a grapefruity citrusy bitter hoppy presence. A good IPA. lululegrand (94), gent, Belgium Apr 2, 2006 Hazy orange-brown beer, creamy beige foam and nothing but citrussy hops in the nose. I cant fiend any others aroma’s but hops. Taste is dry and very herbal-bitter. Very grassy and monothone bitter. Maybe it will improve with cellaring a bit. At Carlo’s Mikkeller tasting. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 20, 2006 Thanks CC. Poured a clear deep amber color with a small off-white head. Hop aroma if up front but light and tight. It doesn’t seem to spread out. Mostly of grass, with caramel and some alcohol underneath. The flavor has the most caramel taste of the 3 I tried (amarillo & simcoe). When it finishes it leads to a very long piney bitterness that starts to curl the tongue. Very drying. This is a bittering hop for sure. My least favorite of the three. I wish I had enough to make a blend of them. toccata (70), grembergen, Belgium Mar 15, 2006 Reddisch brown color and quick dissapearing foam. Smell is one and all fresh herbs. It even smells bitter ans green citrussy. The attack in the taste is a little over the top in bitterness. The boddy is medium and the malty side is not enough comming forward. I think this bitterness is a bit too much for me.
Thanks Carlo for letting me taste this bitter monster.
