Mikkeller Draft Bear

750ml Pours a golden, almost amber, with a big peaky frothy head that lasts... some great lacing to boot. Aromas of fresh hops and some fruit and malts. Flavor is quite appealing for a euro lager, which usually is not my cup a tea. Some pine and resin and a smooth hop finish, very well balanced. A+ for a lager.

750 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. AU14/08.

App.: Clear, deep golden, large rocky froth. Aroma: Grapes and apricots, peppery-spicey hops, toffee, quite fruity. Palate: Medium+ body, soft carbonation, smooth and full. Flav.: Still fruity but more hops comes through – peppery, spicy and piney, somewhat resinous, some toffee; a bit of alcohol, off-dry with fair bitterness.

Great stuff with a nice kick!

When i opened the bottle, the floral hop perfume slapd me...Nice amber body with a brutal, stable, foamy lacing head. Aroma of hop, pine, resin and malt, after a while goes some yeast. The flavor is about the strong hop, the resin-taste dominates the flavor. Smooth mouthfeel with the hop, fine fruity body, sweet malt, some caramel and some shifty yeast. Dry aftertaste.

Bottle at home purchased from Cave Direct Beer Merchants (Mixed case of Mikkeller Beer) Pours warm gold with a big clean bubbly white head. Pine and citrus notes soar off of this beer, these two also combine to great effect in the mouth along with a touch of cape gooseberry just to add an additional tang, I like this but feel that it comes across as more of an IPA than a European strong lager, I’m really surprised that it isn’t an IPA, anyway regardless of where it sits its lovely. Yet another very good beer from Mikkeller.

My Bottom Line:
Orangey and piney hoppiness overtakes the polite caramel maltiness before it plants a lengthy resinous and herbal bitterness to this fluffy hybrid of a Strong Lager.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-Mountainous foam lasts forever atop the nearly clear amber-orange.
-The foam, which you have to take a bite of before getting your first sip, is very bitter!
-The Amarillo and Cascade intensity (especially in the finish) might be a little too much for the malt structure. Then again, I don’t think they were going for balance here.
-Alcohol burns at first, but is not bothersome after a few sips.
-The cushiony effervescence helps to make this powerful lager quite drinkable.
-I found the first half of each sip to be rather easygoing, while the second half was much louder.

Bottle. Good citrus aroma on the nose which was a suprise. Golden body color with big white head. Some fruit in flavor but mainly carbinated bitter beer with a big belch on the finish.

750 ml Bottle. Pours a warm golden in color with a pure white, fluffy head. The aroma is sweet and fruity. It has a nice citrus zing. The flavor is a dry, citrusy mix having almost a wheaty quality. It has a medium body, a well rounded flavor, and a smooth, warm finish centering around an alcohol and fuity character. An interesting beer from begining to end.
