nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Mar 14, 2009 Hell of a malt liquor - beats the hell out of Old E and Steel Reserve. Golden color with a big off-white head. Aroma of pale malt and grassy/citrusy hops. Like an imperial pilsner/American pale ale hybrid in a way. Flavor is sweet and malty with caramel and citrusy hops with slight pilsner notes. Nice full palate for the style. Well-balanced. gunnar (486), Sandnes, Norway Mar 11, 2009 Pours deep golden with a big offwhite, frothy head. Strong aroma of citrus, pine and hops.Taste is dominated by hop, lots of them. Also some notes of caramel and pepper. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 3, 2009 yellow body with a white head.aroma blends what, hops, hay, and malts.flavor is oats, barley, and hops.nice creamy mouthfeel. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 2, 2009 &50 ml bottle shared by Odeed! Thanks Jake! Nose of citrus hops with a tinge of pine and some caramel. Clear yellow gold with a medium, glass lacing, yellow tinged head. Flavor is light bitterness with some caramelly sweetness, but not too much. Finish is lightly bitter with a bit of balancing sweetness that masks the bitter for 15 or 20 seconds. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 8, 2009 Golden color and hazy with a thick off-white head. Aroma is of perfume and is fresh, herbal and hoppy. Taste is moderately hoppy with some herbal notes. miketd (679), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 8, 2009 Bottle brought by bakrslp on BA. Thanks Eric. Pour is hazy yellow with a small whitish head. Aroma of sweet malt and soft fruits. Flavor is grainy with subtle hop present. Medium bodied and not very good. Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Feb 8, 2009 750 ml bottle
Thanks to someone at miketd’s tasting for bringing this. Mikkeller makes a lot of great beers but often times they are priced at a point that makes me wary to get all the best ones. Perhaps this one was a little past its prime but I would be been let down if I had plopped down more than $12.99 for this.
Aroma / Appearance - Almost no head resulted from a vigorous pour. The golden fluid body smelled antiseptic with only a bit of hoppiness. It was hard to tell what this was trying to do.
Flavor / Palate - Floral and carbonated the mouthfeel redeems what could have been a big disappointment. Acceptable for your average beer the only issue I have with this is the cost. Whether that markup is due to transit costs or something else this one should be split with a few friends to make it worthwhile. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle pours cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is caramel hop aroma that has a twang of citrus that is probably past its prime. Flavor follows suit and is a hoppy malty brew that is beyond its prime. Overall a nice brew.
