A fruity aroma with some notes of malt, citrus and grass. Hoppy, pine bitter flavor with a citric fruity note again balanced with some malty sweetness. Very well balanced.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2007 Bottle - Golden to amber clear body, huge creamy long lasting white head, leaving beautiful lacing; Beautiful, beautiful nose with lots of very fine malty elegance, toped in a fine and balanced way with pleasant flowery hop aromas and softened by a fine amount of alcohol sweetness; Huge body in any way, huge quite big bubbled carbonation, very malty big and very quite malty bitter, balanced slightly sweet; Evolving into a very big finish where the Imperial touch really shows, very powerful again with a big amount of both malty and hoppy bitterness, flower and resin aromas, backed with very pleasant malty aromas as well. By far the best Imperial Pilsner I have had, but also the freshest. The only drawback is that it almost finishes to bitter. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 21, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Transparent, orangish brass colored body with a large head of rocky white. A mild sulphury, lager bite centers the attention on a sweet grainy malt base and some orange citrus hops. Fruity notes from the hops, but not a lot of pungent bitterness present in the nose. Touches of maize. White pepper? Medium-full bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel with a sweet, plodding texture. Simple grainy malt profile, light, sweet, with hints of corn. There is a respectable amount of hop bitterness that tries to help counteract the grain sweetness, but it has a bit of an oniony flavor that’s a bit off-putting. Pine needles, but the hops never really are able to create a refreshing sensation amongst the heavy malt character. It’s got a great lager crispness and cleanliness, but the malt sweetness and hops don’t really work well together for my tastes. GRM (1277), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Once you use amber malts and American hops it is outrageous to pretend this is a pilsner. It’s like trying to pass an Imperial Stout off as a superior pilsner. That said, this is delightful, sort of midway between a double and a triple American IPA, somewhere between Founders’ Double Trouble and Devil Dancer for bitterness and safely below their Devil Dancer for alcohol. Rich amber, not a pils. Cascade and Amarillo, with heavy notes of citrus and pine, not a pils. Great creamy mouth. Beautiful hazy gold with a huge foamy head, almost like a big Belgian. Just delightful. And a bonus point for pulling this off at 8% alcohol, also not a pils. Or a stout. But if I had thought I was buying a pils I would be truly angry.
