Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.
A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils, carapils and amber), light candy sugar, hops (amarillo and cascade) and lager yeast.

Poured into a snifter. Muddy opaque goldenrod color with a medium-tall off-white head that leaves a film of fine lacing. Fresh-cut pineapple aroma, pungent mango, peach juice. Some herbs and grass too. Flavor is pale malt with orange marmalade, grains, and a bitter finish. I’m not getting hardly any noble hop spiciness like I expect from a pilsener. Tastes sort of like an aged DIPA. Mouthfeel is nice and dry, maybe a little low on carbonation, some alcohol warming. While this isn’t a bad beer, the thing I like about pilseners is the noble hops cleanness and crispness, and this beer seemed mired in tropical fruit flavors. Upon checking the ingredients, I see that this beer is hopped with Cascade and Amarillo. Doesn’t really make any sense to use zero noble hops and call your beer a pilsener. Stylistically this beer is way off, but hedonistically it’s pretty good.

75 cl bottle at Ørsted Ølbar. I think this was my first Imperial Pilsner and I definately want more. I wonder how a lager yeast ends up with such an impressive and interesting result. Hoppy (grapefruit, grass) and fruity (peaches). Great bitter finish that leaves you craving for more.

25.4 oz bottle picked up at Greens on Ponce De Leon. A little expensive, and hopefully, well worth it. I was planning on saving this for a get together this Friday, but I couldn’t resist. Anyways, orange/brown appearance with a very fluffy head that SLOWLY fades away. Damn good looking beer. Very aromatic hop aroma. Very aromatic beer. There is this subtle fruity/sweet aroma. Slight yeast smell coming from the beer as well. This is a very nuanced beer, in terms of aroma. Sweet caramel/fruit taste at first than the hops take over. Very nice hop flavor that fades away, and leaves a semi-sweet somewhat bitter taste in your mouth. Very nice beer. Not incredibly smooth, but an average palate. Nice beer.

Bottle. Aroma with plenty of hops and malt. Notes of grass and flowers. Unclear amber colour with beige head. Very nice bitter hoppy flavour, very much lika an IPA. Well balanced with malt. The bitterness does not continue but a sweet malt flavour is left in the aftertaste.

[Bottle, thanks Marsiblursi] Poured cloudy amber with a medium white head. Had a tropical fruit and hops aroma. Fairly hoppy taste. Smooth, medium body. Too hoppy for me.

Fantastic aroma of herbal hops and slightly sweet maltiness. Pours with a frothy white head, almost like bubble bath bubbles. Tastes like a pilsner in the herbal hops, dryness, but has a little sweetness due to the higher gravity. But that could be because this is not a very fresh bottle- 10 months! The hops have really held up. Herbal and fruity in the taste, but has a finishing sweetness that ultimately is still pretty dry. Very solid.

750 ml Bottle. Pours a warm golden in color with a pure white, fluffy head. The aroma is sweet and fruity. It has a nice citrus zing. The flavor is a dry, citrusy mix having almost a wheaty quality. It has a medium body, a well rounded flavor, and a smooth, warm finish centering around an alcohol and fuity character. An interesting beer from begining to end.
