Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.
A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.
Ingredients : Water, malts (pils, carapils and amber), light candy sugar, hops (amarillo and cascade) and lager yeast.

(Bottle) Pours hazy orange, light amber. Hoppy, fruity aroma with apricot, grapefruit, mango, orange and black currant. Also some smaller hop notes of grass, pine and flower nectar. Typical complex, have it all ,Mikkeller hop profile. A bit sweet with a nice maltiness. Light fruity, hoppy flavour with grass apricot, friendly grapefruit and light pine. Crisp, light dry finish with a medium bitterness. Lingering fruity and grassy aftertaste. Medium body. This one is very hoppy for being a Pilsner.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Bright and thick pour of tangerine orange. Lemon meringue crust, grass and honey aroma; suggestions of earthy sweetness in pistachio and almond oils. Ebullient, cheerful hop flavors of flowers, rainy grasses, and citrus skins. Brilliantly alive and zesty. Crisp and earthy pilsener rests plaintively beneath, well-presented and deftly reserved, though malty enough to completely muscle out any hint of alcoholic foulness. Sparkly and lively in the mouth; vegetally textured. The hay-like bitterness of yerba mate and noble hops lend a quiet but forceful leafiness to the finish. Reserved, but not halfhearted in the slightest; this could not be any more skillfully done. Thanks for sharing, Ken!

750ml corked bottle. BB 13/12/09 Served chilled in pilsner glass. After two consecutive games of soccer, I feel like I earnt this! Pours a picturesque deep, slightly hazy, golden body with a sizeable, dense white head leaving clumpy lace on the way down. Nice nose packed full of fruity hops. I get some honeydew, peach, bitter orange and grapefruit along with plenty of grass, pine and peppery spice leading onto a backdrop forged of rich caramel maltiness. Full body that hardly gives a thought towards the strength, good soft carbonation, smooth job all-round. Excellent balance of bitterness and malt sweetness. Resiny hops upfront on the palate; bitter orange in bucketloads, unripe tropical fruit, pine and cedar, earthy spice and pepper. Malt body makes its presence heard towards the finish, that lingers with orange and spice and a thirst quenching bitterness. I wouldn’t know what hit me if I were to quaff one of these bad boys without prior knowledge. Good balance, plenty of flavour, without being cloying or sharp. Very nice!

Celticbrew comes through with another winner, that he shared with Buddy Steve, myself and the Truely Comedic (Loved the Pig Joke) Drbayern! This was a great beer! Loved the hoppy aroma upon pouring. It was clear, light yellow, with a nice off white head that held wonderfully. The mouthfeel was wonderful. The bittering made me want for more! Mikkeller can’t seem to do wrong!

750 ml bottle caged and faux corked. Moist citrus hops on the nose. Candle wax. Plenty of dry pine cone. Baked bread. Some dried and lightly sugared banana. Honestly... smells like a freshly opened bag of trail mix. Pours mostly clear bright copper with a huge, lasting white head that produces excellent, thick, chunky, sticky lacing. The dry-Euro-hops come through much more on the palate than on the nose. Quite dry and grassy. There’s enough citrus zest to hold my interest. Bready and doughy malt but the hops blaze through the malt. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Nicely balanced doughy malt and zesty hop finish. Imperial pilsner for sure!

Bottle, 75cl. Pours a nice yellow/orange, slightly hazy, beer, with a nice white head. The arome is nicely balanced hops, with american hops clearly. When tasting the beer it is very balanced and the hops are very caracteristic. The body is slightly fuller than one would expect from a pilsner, but this does not make this a bad beer. The beer has a nice balanced mouthfeel, that leaves a good experience. Overall a good imperial pilsner, with american notes.
