Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Nov 7, 2009 Aroma: very nice. Roasted, fresh cinnamon, cloves, aniseed, citrus & noble hops. Dark chocolate malt. Smoked.
Flavour: interesting. ’Greybearded’. Roasted, slightly smoky, coffee-sourish bitterness, caramel. Almost liquorice-like. Coffeebean-organic... Really fantastic. Long flavour! Great balance.
Palate: fluffy, fizzy, big. Really wonderful. Carbonation is perfect. Many small bubbles making the beer strangely refreshing.
Appearance: reddish brown black body. Very, very dark. Beige toward brown thick, beautiful lacing & foam. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 30, 2009 750, corked, baled, and foiled. Possibly thanks, Maria, but I think this is either from John’s Market or even a Seattle establishment. But it’s certainly a year old at least. Pours jet black with a positively colossal creamy tan head. Sheets of woolly lace coming down the sides. Nice roasty nose with dark chocolate and some herbal hops, even a bit of weed in the aromatics. Creamy, feather-light body. Effervescent carb. Chocolate, true roast, herbal hop, and that demon wacky tobacky again in the mid-palate. Mild, slightly salty, slightly tangy chocolatey finish. Good stuff. saxo (3510), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Oct 27, 2009 Sample at Esbjerg beerfestival. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, chocolate, licorice and coffee. Fin (3372), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Oct 25, 2009 At the Ølfestival, Esbjerg, Denmark 22-10-09. Pours very dark brown, sticky in mouth, but hops ever present. Nice, soft mouthfeeel, good roastiness, but there is also a nice slight sourness at the edge, very nice stuff.
