Pours deep brown into a trappist glass. Mocha head recedes to skim surface. Nutmeg and cinnamon aromas. Smoky chocolate upfront with a holiday spiced finish. Becomes much creamier and more spicy as it warms.

Also shared by Angie and Shawn. It was nice to have this side by side with the Til Fra, though both tasted kinda meh to me. This one was a bit more roasty and less hoppy than the other. I like it a little bit more.

[750 ml bottle] Pours black with a big, thick, creamy head. Malty, spicy, somewhat sourish, almost smoked aroma. Smooth and velvety body. Flavour is moderately roasted, spicy with a long bitterness. Not a bad beer but I expected something bigger.

Light brown foam with nice head. Aroma of chokolate, coffee and malt. The flavor is rich with burnt sugar, coffee, chokolate and a very malty after taste.

Bottle. Very sweet and fruity smell, also a little bit of spices. The head head is large, creamy and dark brown, the body is black. The first taste is a little bit sharp, then it gets fast bitter, a long duration. The taste reminds me a little bit of a bitter chocolate. The body is very creamy-oily and medium strong with not much carbonation. A nice Porter.

Note: This beer seems to be very temperature sensitive. Let it get to around room temperature to get the most out of it, otherwise the spices can get kind of weird. Bottle into chalice. Pours opaque black with a creamy, dark tan head that quickly settles into a thin creamy cap, and leaves an absolute wall of lacing on the sides of the glass. Good looking beer. Nose has the usual roasty espresso notes, but theres some definite spicy licorice in there also that comes out quite clearly. Taste is interesting. Molasses and brown sugar, a bit of a roasty coffee presence, with an array of spices - citrusy orange rind, cinnamon, anise, a bit of nutmeg, spicy currants, and more besides. The spiciness lingers on the palate, a bit resiny, alongside licorice and molasses notes. Mouthfeel is creamy and a bit slick, medium bodied. Really, a fascinating beer once it warmed up.
