Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

The second Christmas porter from Mikkeller. A spiced porter with fine malt background and lovely hop aroma and flavor. The label is designed as a ‘From To’ card – fill in the names and put the bottle under the Christmas tree. The perfect gift for the lazy man/woman…!

Corked bottle. Deep dark brown color, opague. Loads of spices in the aroma: anis, cinnamon, coreander, no doubt also others. Malty sweet, very spicy flavor with caramel and chocolate. Tasty, but too spicy for me. Nevertheless a good beer.

750ml bottle. And now for something completely different... As far as porters go (imperial or otherwise) this is outside the box. Strong spicy, smoky nose that has dark chocolate mixing with nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander and peanut brittle. Flavour is pretty similar with a bit more coffee, and the cinnamon coming to the fore, as well as a more prominent dose of aniseed. Palate is not as thick and heavy as the aroma suggests but is still robust, full bodied and extremely quaffable. Overall I’d have to say there’s not enough like it. Good stuff.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large off-white head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt is dominating with light spices also noticeable. Taste is dominated by creamy 60% cacao chocolate with a light spicy finish though I didn’t find as much spices as per beer description. Body has a very nice creamy texture with limited filtration and good carbonation. Very well done and something I would drink more often if it was available in my neighbourhood.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with a dark red tinge. The head was a cream brown. Aroma was full of spices, ginger was definitely prominent, as well as a smoked aroma. Flavor began full of spices, but transitioned in to a smokey flavor.

Nice black with a huge dense light brown head. Spicy and chocolatey aroma with smokey notes. Mouthfeel is smooth, flavour is just as smooth with nicely blended spices, chocolate, light smoke, caramell and slightly acidic malt character. I’m normally very sensitive towards spicy brews but this comes of as very well balanced with the generous sweet chocolate notes.
