Bottle pours thick black w/ a cappuccino froth head. The aroma is very upfront with the christmas spices. Most prominent for me is the cinnamon and anise, with slight notes of clove. Taste is of dark chocolate, coffee, and plenty of baking spices. Awesome beer with a lot going on. Mouthfeel is above average, and overall a nicely balanced porter.

750ml. Bottle. Pours an oily deep brown/black with a frothy tan head that laces nicely. Beautiful to look at in the glass. Nose is herbally with prominent anise and clove and a touch of cinnamon. Citrus hops are also subtle in the aroma. Flavor is roasty with notes of black licorice, mild malt sweetness, some hop derived bitterness and a touch of smoke. Has a mildly yeasty character to it that almost feels Belgian. Mouthfeel is slick and oily with a medium level of carbonation. Finish is dry and slightly tart. Pretty impressive holiday style porter with herbal character that is present throughout, but that doesn’t taste medicinal.

Clear medium to dark brown black color with a large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chcolate, licorice acidic notes, spicy - clove, licorice - anis, light yeasty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, and dusty dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20081208]

Bottle@Home. Chocolate aroma with dark fruits and a little lactic. Black colour, great looking brown head, good lace. Chocolate, roasted, bitter, dry mouthfeel. Pretty ok but straighforward, highly drinkable.
