75cl bottle at home, iRate: pours pitch black with a tall creamy dark tan head. Head has decent staying power. Wonderful smooth roast and spice. Sweet alcohol intertwined with a very "green" herbal note. Spices start to blow off and allow the roast to show through more, but swirling brings the spice back up. The green twig does seem to get a little heavy. Upon tasting there seems to be a delay with the roast of a second or two. The roast ramps up bringing with it hops and the hop vine. Spices jump off the hop vine with big cardomom and some cinnamon. Slight ashy chocolate. Roast and green combined start to move towards tree bark. Sweet sugary alcohol comes in as the beer starts to come to an end. Long slick sweet alcohol finish with roast and cardamom.

Lots of christmas spices in this one, the commercial description above is fairly spot on when it comes to the spices, the star anise, coriander, cinammon and cloves are all noticable. Specially the cloves. It also has a taste of roasted nuts and some burned caramell. It has a long aftertaste that really digs in and stays there.

Poured from a caged and corked 750ml bottle and served in a snifter. This beer poured pitch black with a two-fnger thick head of long lasting, rocky tan foam. Solid lace covered the entire glass. The aroma consisted of heavy spicing (the cinnamon and coriander are very bright), some citrus, chocolate, and also a touch of caramel. I liked the spice profile, but it did tend to overwhelm the aroma a bit. The flavor included rich chocolate and caramel, oranges, pine, and a nice blend of spice. The spices were integrated into the flavor quite nicely. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slightly oily. Lightly carbonated. Nicely done. The spicing is a little heavy in the aroma, but the flavor very tasty.

750mL bottle from 2008. Pours a near-black with mahogany highlights and a HUGE and creamy chestnut/mocha head that leaves chunks of lacing down the side of the glass. A rich aroma full of wintry spices - loads of cinnamon, clove, anise, dark chocolate, roasty coffee, and caramel. Goes down velvety smooth and full-bodied. Starts with lots of creamy caramel and some dark chocolate flavors. Roasty coffee and cinnamon follow. A bitter finish with some more tingly holiday spiciness and hints of citrusy hoppiness. Lingering dryness.

Black, tall brown head, soapy filmy lace and coating. Aroma is spicy -- both nutmeg and yeasty. A bretty earth character, sweet chocolate around the edges, cocoa powder in the back. Wow, the flavor is very different than the aroma. First thing is a roasty bitter coffee note and baker’s chocolate that’s followed by mellow holiday spice that lingers to the finish. Almost a hint of peanut butter. Very nice smooth, velvety body with a slight dry finish.
