Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at Amager Bryghus.

An American Strong Ale brewed exclusively for Pikkulintu Pub in Helsinki, Finland. Enthusiasm, expertise, dedication. Those are the words best describing the work of the guys of Pikkulintu Pub in Helsinki, Finland. With their vast knowledge and a decade of experience in the crazy world of beer, Pikkulintu has been able to change the face of Finnish craft-beer scene within the past few years – for good! Always finding the best beers available with their noses of truffle pigs they also dug Mikkeller out from the fertile soil of dnish craft-brewing and ended up being the first European importers of Mikkeller beer. This beer – strong, bold and beautiful like the boys behind it - is a result of a long partnership and a tribute to the daring beer-guerrillas of Pikkulintu.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-06-04) Orange and cloudy. Very big slightly tan head that lasts long. Yeast, hops and pine in nose. Full and thick palate with some fizziness. Hops, pine, malts and yeast in taste. White bread. Some sourness. Very fine beer.

Bottle at Olutravintola Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Pours cloudy golden with a huge beige head. Aroma is hops, grass, pineapple and peach, containing some bitter undertones. The flavour is slightly bitter grape at first, then sweet malt and peach. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, with hints of yeast. Lovely!

Bottle. [Papsoe tasting 31-08-2008, thanks buddy] Huge thick and foamy off-white head that really lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Cloudy amber color. Aroma of lovely chewy peach and apricot, mild grapefruit and dusty floral notes. Mild underlying caramel. Over the palate came strong bitter hoppy notes with a combination of fruit and mild toasted malty and caramel notes. Full bodied with an average carbonation and very dry texture. Moderated bitter flavor with good counter sweetness. Lingering chewy hoppy dry finish.

(Bottled, re-rate Jul 26th, 2008) Still a beautiful Duvel head. Aroma maybe an inch stuffier than previously. Flavor has caramel, aromatic-nutty hops, grainy maltiness, some alcohol. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Aroma down, flavor up... still ok, but not great. (Bottled, BBE 2010-05-01, thanks Markku&Marjut!) Very hazy amber-orange with a large, foamy and lasting head. Forms a nice Duvel-like cloud in the middle. Intense aroma with lots of exotic fruit, orange-peel, grapefruit, green tea, pine needles, and fresh, aromatic hops. Very bitter and somewhat aromatic, but somewhat stingy and ashy flavor - a bit like Nøgne IPA with too much yeast poured in. Also moderately strong solvent notes. Almost full-bodied, thick and slightly sticky palate with lowish carbonation. Flavor lacks the freshness and complexity of the aroma, and unfortunately downgrades this otherwise great beer into plain good. Need to sample another one to see if there’s variation in quality.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu 2008-06-11) Cloudy appearance, exotic aroma like pineapple coming from the yeast. A bit smoke in the "bittery" (must be over 100 IBU) aroma. The hops used are probably not 100% American, Tomahawk and German Northern Brewer? Marjut told me that the beer is brewed at the Amager brewery, Denmark.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy golden with a dense off-white head leaving laces. Fresh and fat peachy hop aroma. Full-bodied with sweetish caramel and fruit and again loads of peachy accents from the aroma hops that also leave a solid dose of bitterness. 310808
