Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Bottle, 75cl corked, at Patricks Pub, Kristiansand. A hazy, orange-golden beer with a nice, off-white head. Hoppy, fruity and candy-like nose with some sour notes. Nice herbal flavor, with some sourness and horse blanket. Fine bitterness, slightly sweet and fruity. Effervescent mouthfeel with some warmth. Mostly bitter finish, but the Brett shines through. A lovely one, but a bit on the sweet side. Still with a lovely hop profile. Gets better and better as you drink. (090312)

Bottle purchased at the Pizza Port Belgian Beer Party. Pours a amber color with a big, sticky, long lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, citrusy and spicy with a touch of barnyard. Flavor is more of the same with some fresh fruit in there as well. A bit medicinal. Medium bodied, lots of carb. Not bad, but pretty forgettable

Deep bronze in colour with a very long lasting off-white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is quite yeasty with lots of lemon citrus, floral hops, some caramel malt sweetness, some peppery spice. The flavour is very yeasty with lots of lemon and orange citrus, fairly dry, apples and grape skins, pepper with a lingering sweetness. Spicy and yeasty mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, spicy and yeasty.

An excellent tribute to Orval. Good amount of brett, one year in the bottle and this was fantastic.

750ml bottle from the Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Opened on September 28, 2008.
Best before March 11, 2012.

Huge white lasting head subsides into ice-cream like shapes. Hazy amber body with carbonation. Fruity hoppy resiny peppery aroma with orange and barnyard notes. Dry peppery hoppy orange barnyard taste, quite light, with metallic notes. Fruity banana as well. Thinnish body. Sharp mouthfeel. Dry peppery metallic herbal aftertaste with cod liver oil and tobacco notes. Surprisingly mild. Interesting. Nice. (0.75l bottle, Olympen.)

750ml corked and caged bottle I picked up at John’s Market in PDX. Pours a deep golden amber color with some orange tint and a tight off white head. Nose is floral, slightly funky with sweet honey notes. This one taste slightly bready and medicinal with some spice. Great effervescence with a dry finish and a some light bittering on the end. Very enjoyable.

750 ml "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Deep golden colour, huge and lasting off-white head. Very nice aroma of fermenting fruits, herbs, spices and farmhouse. The flavour is dominated by pleasant fruity hops (Hallertauer and Styrian Goldings) on a background of malts and brettanomyces elements, with spicy notes. Not too sweet, not too bitter, not sour. Alcohol is well hidden. In short, not as "wild" as I expected, should be palatable even for "tame" beer drinkers.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity with yeast, brett, herbs, light spices and some funkiness. Flavor is fruity and earthy with citrus floral notes, light spices and has a bit of funk and a touch of brett with a medium body and a dry finish.
