Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Pours a thick amber with a medium white head. Aroma is very unique, banana esters, cinnamon, and buttery bread. Tastes like banana bread to tell you the truth, very unique. Mikkeller never ceases to amaze me, another unique beer.

Bottle. A strong smell of yeast, light sweet and a little bit of bread. The medium head is light brown, creamy with a long duration. The body is dark red and clear. The taste is very bitter, especially the finish which is very long. The body is very creamy, medium strong with a normal carbonation.

Orange amber color with a somewhat wispy taupe head. Trying to decide if I’m smelling A spring of fall day. On one hand there are flowers, pollen and grass and honey; and on the other there is dried goldenrod, leaves and dried grains. Hints of brett. A touch drier than I expected. Initial light caramel and pale malt is quickly escorted away with dry weeds, roots, leaves and herbs. For some reason most Belgian strong ales grow on me the further I get into them. Perhaps it’s the subtle nuances, but I partly believe it is because the alcohol takes over the senses and I become inoculated. Some grapefruit located in the middle as well. Still a bit rough in the start, but this finishes strong. Long malty linger. Some raw sugar also comes out with more roots and herbs. Complex and appealing. This cold night begs for for a strong brew. This one’s for you Cobra. Fight the good fight, we are here for you.

Bottle shared by nbutler11 - finally - at the 09er. I could drink this any old time. Does taste of wood and yeast like a wild ale, but is less sour and more substantial. Like a tripel kinda. Sweet fruit, sourdough, jicama. Very nicely done, if not super-exciting.

Bottle from Jonpol at AJs. Pours a deep amber color with a creamy off-white head. Looks a bit like a barley wine. Smells of yeast and wood. Tastes of citrus rind, red apples, grass, and caramel. Much more mellow in texture and flavor than I had anticipated. Nice.

Bottle From Champane Wine. Poured hazy amber color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy spicy, yeast and bubblegum aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met with another of the top six active bottled beers for style.

Pours out dark amber color with thin creamy foam. Taste is sweet malty, fruity, and funky. Slight bitter hop finish. Lots of fruit and Brett. Typical tasty De Proef brew. Allways good to drink.
