Aroma of yeast, funk, diapers, hops, and a hint of lemon. Strong toasted malt flavor with a touch of yeasty funk on the finish. Somewhat dry and bitter. Really crazy flavors overall. How: Bottle 750ml. Ataïr’s bbq tasting session with Montreal crew .
The look: Cloudy orangy-brown body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Malts are toasted but without much caramel or other sweet flavours. I’d describe this beer toasted maltiness as salad croutons. Also notes of dry wood and dry other stuff. Body is fluffy. The brett here brings a strong wild and dry character to the beer, no bretty sourness or other brett-related off-flavours. Not much in the way of sweet and fruity flavours. Low hops presence. This beer is all about dry toastiness meeting dry wild yeastiness in an unconventional way that will please some (like me) and leave many wondering what the f**k Mikkeller was thinking about. Plus its name brought back so many childhood memories waking up in the ditch when my parents were trying to lose me. golubj (1301), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. Amber pour, off-white film on top. Aroma is peppery / biscuity belgian malt and just a little bit of leather. Flavor is the same, add a little sweet malt to the biscuity / peppery presence. Spices also and very mild brett (even after warming for an hour). I just don’t like the pepper dominance in this one. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Hazy amber beer - soapy lace - mild herbal and floral character in the nose, with some fairly well-developed brettiness, some light phenols - quite dry, herbal and crisp, with some peppery character - the brett is starting to some through quite a bit, with some fairly apparent barnyardy quality in the background - very rustic and tasty. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Thanks to notalush for this one. Deep amber/brown beer with a creamy white head. Aroma is lightly sweet and caramelly with a lot of boney/minerally dryness. Loads of soft brett character and a light herbal/minerally grassiness on the back. Flavour is pretty nice. Soft caramel malt, flinty dryness and a soft light bitterness. Herbal and dusty toward the back. Lots of soft funkiness on the back along with a bit of mint among the darker sweeter malts. thebeertourist (2845), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2008 75 cl bottle. Hazy copper with a good off-white head. Potent fruity brettanomyces aroma. Some sweet maltiness, countered by brettanomyces famyard bitterness. A soft, yet strong, Danish version of Orval. bu11zeye (5698), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2008 (750ml bottle) Pours a hazy orange body with a small off-white head. Aroma of florals, citrus, wood, Belgian yeast, light leather, and horse blanket. Flavor of florals, brett, yeast, oregano, and black pepper. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Citrusy in the lemon range, both aroma and flavor, funky all over with brie cheese and Camembert. Earthy minerals and a welcome metal element to the finish. This was very pleasant. A star of a big evening though it was a slight gusher.
