Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Hazy amber orange color, large head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is funk, sugar, fairly fruity, grass, some barnyard action, bread, sugar, more. There’s quite a bit going on here. Medium bodied, somewhat dry finish but there’s definitely some bret there as well. I dunno, it just didn’t do it for me. Lots going on, but not my preference.

Nose is kind of dusty, yeasty, funk, brett, citrus, sweetness. Taste is sweet, some bitterness, more sweetness, some citrus. Bitter in the finish This is so drinkable. Fantastic head that is rocky as hell and rings the glass the whole time. Some alcohol initially in the palate, but it goes away quickly. Some wateryness in the finish too, all of that detracts from the finish, which is also bitter, but slightly cloying. Very yummy.

This was a mess. Typically, I’ve enjoyed beers from Mikkeller but this one sucked. Very tart in the nose but has a flavor reminiscent of Louisiana tea. Dry, grassy, with an unnatural sweetness. Cloying. Blah. If this is alive, someone put it out of its misery!!!

Thanks to EddieB23! Murky copper color with no head. Very dry, floral hoppy aroma. Crushingly bone dry taste right off the bat. Lots of floral hop and a little dried apricot. A pinch of the Bretty dustiness.

Bottle, with renffisch, 2nd September 2008. Amber with a great persistent head. Very lively! Aroma is god awful - dried sweat, mold, hint of citrus. Flavour is malty, with dusty, musky , leathery notes. Ok palate.

750mL bottle. A murky rust-colored pour with a big tan head. A funky herbaceous, slightly musty aroma that features some mustard, pepper, a spicy tanginess, a strange medicinal sweetness and a weird cleaning solvent quality. Medium body with decent balance. Some slightly toasty candied caramel upfront that quickly transitions to lots of bitter herbs. A yeasty cheesiness throughout. Very unique stuff.

Bottle, shared by Swoopjones - Thanks! Sampled with Mike, Paul & Harry. Slightly cloudy light brown, white head. There is some nice brett there as well as a good amount of malt (more than I really wanted), and maybe a bit of oxidation. Its reallly bitter. Not IIPA bitter, but keerist theres a lot of bitterness in there. The maltiness is a bit too forward (for me) but the brett is quite nice.
