Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

750 ml bottle from Bev4less. pours a copper color with a big off-white head that has fair retention and some lacing. The nose is soft and mild with herbs, musty fruits, spices, hay and a bit of funk. The flavor reminds me of the great saisons by Dupont and Fantome. I get hay, white pepper, kiwi, dry white fruits and Belgian yeasts. The hops are effective in a supporting role adding a dimension of biter walnuts. The palate is medium with soft carbonation. The finish is long and extra dry with an oaked white wine kind of impression. Overall: I bet that this goes great with fish or chicken or pizza. Awesome stuff. Well done Mikkeller.

Where the Wild Beers Are @ The Gate 8/30/09. Hazy orange with head. Soapy perfumy herbal hop and melon aroma. Vanilla melon water mild hay with a tongue tingling dry hop finish. Not much flavor overall.

Bottle that I brought to the Where the Wild Beers are event. Pours a mostly clear golden amber with brown highlights and a medium white head. Caramel, brett, hay, plum. Medium bodied, light bitterness. Very dry finish, with a light acid.

Pours bright amber with a mostly maintained off-white head. Notes of funky citrus, herbal hops, dusty and brett. Medium to full bodied with lush carbonation. The hops were still a bit too fresh in my bottle, it could have used some more age.

Bottle shared by theisti; thanks for cracking this one Tim. It pours a pretty, dark, reddish amber with a creamy off-white head. The nose features bright and fruity dark malt, spicy yeast and dust. Light to medium-bodied and slick on the tongue, it transitions to a dry mineral and vegetal finish. Round, malty, and lightly fruity with an odd, dusty, white pepper/green pepper note. This is an interesting beer, but I’m not sure that I’d say I "liked" it.

750ml bottle from grape & gourmet, aged in the dark for about 3 months. pours a beautiful, clear gold with a 2 finger, off-white head and great lacing. aroma is wonderful with bold, slightly sour, brett funk notes, sweet notes of red apple, cinnamon, ginger snap cookie, and vanilla, with a hint of clove, and light malts. flavor is delicious as well with the tart, brett notes coming through up front along with sweet, orchard fruits, and spice cake with touches of hay, grass, and toasty malts leading to a dry, bitter finish. palate is medium bodied and very drinkable with high carbonation. overall, a very worthy, unique tribute to orval.
