Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Interesting beer. Muddy brown/copper pour with a tight white head. Aroma was a little funk and a bit of hops. the flavor was the same, some hop presence, but it felt kind of leaden, like hops and collard greens and spinach all mixed together. Wish I liked this one more, but it wasn’t doing it for me.

Finally got to try this one. Sampled from a bottle at the Seattle IBF 09. Poured a honey orange. Big barleywine aroma - hop-forward, with lots of citrus, and dusty orange peel. Some barnyard qualities, but the Brett is subdued, here. Full, but light flavor. It has a strong presence without being too thick. Good - but definitely not fantastic.

Bottle: Poured a shiny amber color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and very good lacing. Aroma of fruity ester is very interesting with nice Belgian style malt and a slightly dry hoppy finish. Taste is also dominated by some fruity ester with some Belgian style malt with some lingering sweetness and some very light Poppering style hops at the end. Full body with great carbonation and no signs of the alcohol. Very well done though not very close to Orval as suggested by the label.

i believe this one was from superdave70... tasted next to it’s stinky brother alright. a hazy copper colored pour is capped by a foamy tannish off white head... nice retention. this is a darker sweeter version of alright... the aroma and flavor profiles are spot on only turned down a few notches...some caramel added in for good measure. it has a touch more oomph to the body which makes it a little less refreshing...7/4/7/3/15/3.6

Maybe brett is just not my thing, they all taste like the need more time or like they just arent what I want them to be. Like funkiness before actual funkiness. Add that with "dead" hop it just comes across as very blah.

Bottled at BH, Pori. Dark brown, firm beige head. Raisiny, slightly rusty nose with old dark fruits, faint funkiness, berries and resin. Hoppy, fresh flavor with pine, chalkiness, little funk and moldy sourness, very different from the Orval-esque It’s Alight. Almost full bodied, really nice strong but soft carbonation. Guess the bretta would shine a lot better with just pale malt in it, but then again, this will probably still keep developing. Now it was a bit messy.

It’s Alive! Sampled on 5/29/2009. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a corked and caged 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is hoppy, bretty and sweet. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with some funk. The hops are spicy and floral. Lively carbonation. Nice balance between the hops, malts and the funk! This beer really reminds me of Orval. A little bit of funk, little bit of hops with a touch of sourness. The finish is dry. The mouthfeel is full and round. The finish is clean, crisp and dry. The aftertaste is slightly tart and funky. 8-4-8-4-17
