emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Oct 2, 2008 Pours a thick tan head with streaks along the sides of the glass. The color is a semi clear nut brown. The nose is of floral and citrus hops. The flavor is nice and robust with a ton of chocolate malt and hints of roasted coffee. But it is not too roasted, it is nice and balanced. It is hopped very well and the carbonation is perfect. Overall it is a great brown ale and nice and refreshing. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Oct 2, 2008 Aroma is roasted, nearly toasted malt, and an influence of nuts also. Deep brown, pours a small tan head. Flavour is toasty malt, pleasant nuttiness, with some woody undertones. Medium bodied, very nicely balanced, lovely mouthfeel. Fabulous! armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Sep 29, 2008 Brown body with a frothy creamy beige head. Aroma of the hop flowers like resin with roasted malt and coffee. Complex mouthfeel with the caramel and coffe tastes, strong personality with a good balanced but powerfull hop flavo. Fine and long aftertaste of the roasted grains and coffe. Thank you, Mikkeller, it was really fine!r PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Sep 27, 2008 The afro on the label is priceless, first off. Bottle at Volo, shared with folkbeer. This really is one complex mother of a beer. Pours a wonderful brown, dark, almost black with a creamy head, beautiful and thick when poured (but died quickly) in a short, goblet like glass. There’s cherry and other dark fruits in the aroma, maybe some prune with plenty of wonderful, dark roasted coffee beans and a hint of fresh chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium with a slight, slight wateriness. The flavour is full, complex and full of strong dark roasted coffee, dark cherry with a background nuttiness. Smooth blend and balance between flavours. A medium dry finish with hops and savoury chocolate. MakeItDrinkIt (66), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 27, 2008 Medium brown color with a medium to thin tan head. Aroma is roasted grains with a touch of caramel. Flavor is initially quite dry, crisp - followed by some roasted notes of grains and a hint of caramel, then immediately dries back out - slightly bitter finish. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Sep 26, 2008 Getting notebook online. Bottle. Putting coffee flavors in a brown ale is a fabulous idea. Roasted malt and coffee flavors are a hit. Very good beer! ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Sep 13, 2008 Sweet caramel in the aroma. Odd bitterness that doesn’t work. Malts are nice, coffee is good. Pretty smooth but too thin. hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 13, 2008 Nice brown body with a good off white head. Aroma is wonderful roasted malts and is causing me to get my hopes up. However, the flavor just falls flat on its face and kind of really irritated me by letting me down. The finish is just off and bitter. The hoppy bitter just doesn’t seem to fit this beer. Could be much better. Yet, I must say that it does get better the more you drink, and the finish begins to set better with me.
