This really is one complex mother of a beer. Pours a wonderful brown, dark, almost black with a creamy head, beautiful and thick when poured (but died quickly) in a short, goblet like glass. There’s cherry and other dark fruits in the aroma, maybe some prune with plenty of wonderful, dark roasted coffee beans and a hint of fresh chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium with a slight, slight wateriness. The flavour is full, complex and full of strong dark roasted coffee, dark cherry with a background nuttiness. Smooth blend and balance between flavours. A medium dry finish with hops and savoury chocolate. MakeItDrinkIt (66), Portland, Oregon, USA

Aroma is roasted grains with a touch of caramel. Flavor is initially quite dry, crisp - followed by some roasted notes of grains and a hint of caramel, then immediately dries back out - slightly bitter finish. danielcurtis81 (885), San Diego, California, USA

Aroma is wonderful roasted malts and is causing me to get my hopes up. However, the flavor just falls flat on its face and kind of really irritated me by letting me down. The finish is just off and bitter. The hoppy bitter just doesn’t seem to fit this beer. Could be much better. Yet, I must say that it does get better the more you drink, and the finish begins to set better with me. crowderm (277), Recklinghausen, Germany
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Pours a pretty brown with solid head. Tastes like chocolate covered aspirin. Strange. Sort of good, but the finish definitely could use some work. Solid mouthfeel, nothing special though. Pretty good beer, kind of disappointing though. Jonte (816), Gothenburg, Sweden

Aroma: Am. hops, roasted malt, chocolate, very hoppy. Flavor: Rosted malt, caramel, light chocolate, hops, citrus, aspirin. Mostly very hoppy. Dry finish. I want more maltiness in a brown ale. buzzoven (333), Japan
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Very roasty...very roasty. Tan head sits over deep brown body. Nice lacing on the glass as I drank it down. Smell was minimal though some kind of unknown dark clove scent was discernable amongst the coffee and roasted bean flavour. Quite bitter and a hint of smoke in the finish. Not bad, yet somehow not super great.
