ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Apr 30, 2008 Brown colored, moderate to large head, solid lacing and retention. Aroma is fairly hoppy with notes of chocolate, caramel and roast. Pretty big aroma and flavor. Clean, somewhat bitter mouthfeel. Big flavors, nice balance, not a lot of complexity. Enjoyable brown though. DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 30, 2008 500ml bottle. Pours the same color as every other brown ale with a nice big foamy off white head that has good retention and lacing. Aroma is piney, spicy hops on top of chocolate. Some roasty flavors evident as well. Also some of that normal brown ale smell - sorry I can’t be more specific. A definite nuttiness. Taste is very dry with an intense chalky cocoa-ness. Very unique. Pretty bitter, especially for the style. A little astringent. This one was weird. I don’t know how I feel about this one. I think the bitterness and the astringency and the dryness are a little harsh for the style. Interesting but not one of my favorite brown ales. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 29, 2008 bottle - pours clear and ruby brown with big white head and some lacing; aromas mix of bubblegum and dirty feet; thin body with flavors of bitter hops, licorice and again, dirty feet; lots of carbonation and little sweetness; overall a dismal effort compared to what i’ve tried from mikkeller so far gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 29, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle. Pours dark brown, with ruby highlights. Big fluffy white head. Lacing is quite prominent. Aromas of big chocolatey maltiness, plum, caramel, dry oats, slight vanilla. Flavor has roasted soft malts, caramel, some chocolate and a nice Nilla wafer cookie quality. Also a slight lactose. Crisp and drinkable, balanced well. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Apr 28, 2008 Bottle. Sweet orange and grapefruit PNW hops with pineapple and lychee - surprising for a brown ale! - give way to toasted, roasted, slightly chocolaty overtones. Reddish-brown pour with an unmovable, rocky tanned head. Very robust bitter taste, comparison with Dreadnaught is still apt, with dry toasty and bready notes. But still, the hops overwhelm any trace of roast and toast and chocolate in the mouth, and thus this is an IPA rather than a brown ale. And just slightly above average, at that. Light brown is slightly sticky with some alcohol shining through. Pass. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Apr 28, 2008 Pours a deep, translucent nut brown with a thin white head. Aroma is crisp and nutty with slightly roasted malt at the front. Flavor was mild compared to other Mikkeller brews, roasted nuts, slight coffee, toffee and sugar. Finish was clean and refreshing. Good session beer. Bragesnak (2223), Aarhus, Denmark Apr 27, 2008 From LIC, Aarhus, DK
