Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 5, 2008 Pours a dark nut brown with cream/tan colored head that dissipates to a tan lacing. Aroma is nutty hazelnut with undertones of coffee. The flavor is a bit bitter with coffee flavors and bitter malts. The palate fairly light. Definitely not near this brewers capabilities. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 5, 2008 Weak coffee color, decent head. Flavor is cocoa powder and coffee beans. Medium bodied. Smooth on the palate. This is like drinking a good cup of coffee. Nice. SamGamgee (1395), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Apr 4, 2008 Updated: Apr 6, 200850cl bottle. Dark nut brown with a lasting fluffy and lacy head. Big hopy aroma with lots of grapefruit peel and a dusting of chocolate powder. The flavor hits you with a lot of coffee and hops. Bitter and piny, without much malt sweetness. At first this put me off, but it just got more and more drinkable toward the end. Reminds me a lot of dark-chocolate covered espresso beans. The body is clean, light and airy. The bitterness lasts in the finish. Kind of like and IPA with coffee in it. Quite unique to me. greenhorn1 (458), Mission Viejo, California, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle from BottleTrek.com. Does Mikkeller make a bad beer? Pours a clear mahogany with a thick frothy tan head. Roasted malt aroma and hops. Besides the roastiness in the flavor, it also has subtle hints of chocolate and toffee. What is so good and unique about this beer is the hoppiness. I was not expecting it, but it somehow works. I am not a big fan of brown ales, but this is a very remarkable brew. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 3, 2008 Bottle. Poured a deep brown body with nice head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, hops. Flavor is chocolate, grassy hops, roasted coffee and sweet. Possibly best brown ale I ever had. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Apr 2, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown body. Foamy head. Roasted coffee aroma. Taste is also real roasty with chocolate well-pronounced. Also taste of coffee, toffee and licorice. Very creamy texture. Quite bitter as well. Enjoyable. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 2, 2008 Pours a ruby-tinged mahogany into a shaker. Off-white micro head expands to tophat the rim. Smoked malt aromas. Crisp sour caramel with a smoky malt middle and a lasting citrus hop finish. Not a lot of balance. The bitter finish tends to overwhelm the tastebuds after a while. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 31, 2008 HUGE thanks to GMCC2181 for sending this one my way. I’d waited a long time to try this! I was a little weirded out by the fact that this is one hoppy brown ale! I expected something more subtle, but this brew was crazy (in a good way). Texture is very thin, but with a thick head. Aroma is hops and stale coffee, like you are reusing a glass you drank an IPA in (which I thought I was at first!). No lacing. This one has a lot going on, nice notes of malt, coffee, and hops. I would say this is a "Coffee IPA" if I was describing it to someone. I would like to try it again sometime. When you absolutely positively got to drink every motherfu*king brown ale in the room...accept no substitutes! Thanks again Gabe!!
