chrisv10 (335), Denmark Aug 23, 2009 33cl bottle. Cleat brown body with small tan head. Very different from the old 50 cl bottle I tasted several years back. More watery and less coffee flavour. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 19, 2009 Sample at JaBier’s refrigerator reduction tasting on 08/15/09. This brew is a murky dark brown-amber color with a medium beige head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Coffee and citrusy hops in the nose as well as some roasted malt. Medium body with a flavorful blend of roasted coffee and malt flavors as well as brown sugar, chocolate and hops. The finish is roasty with a lingering hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Aug 17, 2009 Bottle at my refrigerator reduction tasting on 8/15/09. Pours a clear brown with a thin tan head. Malty aroma with some cranberry, hops and roast. Bitter hop flavor up front that transitions nicely to a roasty coffee finish. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Aug 17, 2009 This beer rules! It’s a roasty, chocolaty brown ale with hints of coffee and licorice. Being a Mikkeller brew the malts are inevitably complimented by a great amount of hop bitterness, aroma and flavour Davros (202), Australia Aug 11, 2009 Pours copper with ruby tints. Huge head showing great persistence and lacing.
Hops dominates aroma, there’s some grapefruit, pine, quite spicy. Toasty/bready malt hiding underneath. I would have liked more nutty/toasty malt.
Same with the flavours: green citrus hops dominates over the sweetness of the toasty and crystal malts. Solid bitter finish (IPA strength), seems to be from a mix of hops and dark grains.
Body is too watery for my liking. Ober (1165), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Aug 11, 2009 Bottle @ GBBF 2009. A dark brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of coffee malts with hops and some fruits. The taste of coffee with fruits. It’s dry and bitter. Hints of vanilla. The aftertaste is bitter coffee, with some fruits. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Aug 8, 2009 Pours reddish brown with a wispy mostly maintained tan head. Notes of English hops, pine, caramel, toffee, and earthy malt. Full bodied, lightly sticky with soft carbonation. A very nice brown ale, I was quite impressed. BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Aug 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a huge tan head over a brown body. Aroma of chocolate, hops and vanilla. Taste is bitter coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Some lingering cocoa powder. Light carbonation smoothish mouthfeel.
