Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at Ørbæk Bryggeri, Ørbæk, Denmark.
Mikkellers tribute to the foul-mouthed stewardess Jackie Brown from Quentin Tarantino’s movie of the same name. It’s a roasty, chocolaty brown ale with hints of coffee and licorice. Being a Mikkeller brew the malts are inevitably complimented by a great amount of hop bitterness, aroma and flavour.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale, munich, cara-pils, cara-crystal, brown and chocolate), flaked oats, hops (nugget, simcoe and centennial) and ale yeast.

750ml bottle, this Jackie has a brown pour with a more than two finger high head of light tan bubbles, generous effervescence, left lots of lacing on the glass, aromas of chocolate, toasted malt with a good malt sweetness, citrus hops, faint nut and earthy fragrances, the aroma reminds me of a Strong Ale, a dark brown Strong Ale with lots of hops, of course the alcohol is not there for Strong Ale, flavors of roasted malt, faint chocolate and coffee with a herb hop bitterness, for me, there may have been a bit too much hop bitterness that may have gotten in the way of fully enjoying the malt, mouth feel is lively from the carbonation, some hop bitterness trails after the finish, if you like a well hopped Brown Ale, you will enjoy this, I was looking forward to a nice flavorful Brown Ale with a forward malt profile.

My 650ml bottle was 2.5 years old at Rhinoi, one year past official expiry. Semi-turbid light chestnut prown with clear gold-brown highlights, medium creamy tan head.Aroma of demerera dark honey and slight wet hay. Great body and feel to this beer! Amazing hops presence, complex malts feature chocolate raisin honey fig toffee dry cocoa and fresh baked biscuit. Very pleasant bitterness seems to accrue and become more prominent on the finish. My thjis has aged well, would love to compare fresh.

Decided to pick this 25.4 oz. bottle up at Greens on Ponce De Leon. Looking VERY good for a brown ale. Nice DARK brown color. Damn near opaque. Nice slight off-white head that eventually fades away. In my opinion, this is how an awesome brown ale should look. Fairly nice balance between the malts and hops in the aroma. A decent nut aroma coming through. Very pungent brew. I am not a fan of the fact that the hops are so present, but this might be a positive note on the flavor. The flavor is, in my mind, excellent. Nice nutty, roast, malty flavor. The hops provide an excellent backing to this beer. Nice subtle coffee flavor as well. I don’t think they could have done a better job on a brown. This roast is absolutely amazing. The hops and roast are just the perfect combo. The coffee comes out more as the beer warms up. This beer is simply amazing.

Very dark brown with lasting light brown head. First impression of the aroma was slightly poo like till the sweetness and hops kick in. Great smell. The chocolate malts are evident in the flavour, nice amount of hops, little coffee and something sweeter like vanilla. Again, I’m very impressed by a Mikkeller brew.

Mondial 2009, Montreal. Translucent chestnut brown with a nice beige head. There are some American hops in the aroma, along with roasted malt and toasted nuts. The beer is brown sugar sweet, with nuts, roast, and chocolate all joining in. Finishes with a hoppy bitterness. Full and creamy. Too hoppy to be a traditional brown ale, but very good nonetheless.

33cl bottle. Cleat brown body with small tan head. Very different from the old 50 cl bottle I tasted several years back. More watery and less coffee flavour.

Sample at JaBier’s refrigerator reduction tasting on 08/15/09. This brew is a murky dark brown-amber color with a medium beige head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Coffee and citrusy hops in the nose as well as some roasted malt. Medium body with a flavorful blend of roasted coffee and malt flavors as well as brown sugar, chocolate and hops. The finish is roasty with a lingering hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle at my refrigerator reduction tasting on 8/15/09. Pours a clear brown with a thin tan head. Malty aroma with some cranberry, hops and roast. Bitter hop flavor up front that transitions nicely to a roasty coffee finish.
