| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Updated: Mar 4, 2008Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a massive frothy head. Aroma is roast coffee and a little bit of citrus hoppiness... Taste is coffee, espresso, a hint of chocolate, some nuttiness. Aftertaste is powerful bitter/coffee. Nice, thick mouthfeel. Gets even better as it warms up - the nuttiness becomes very apparent. Monstrously expensive in PA ($110/12 16oz bottles) Syd (892), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle pours black and ruby highlights with a monster creamy looking white head with clingy lace – interesting to look at the head/beer line as it is very distinct (not sure if this makes any sense, but it looks great this way). The aroma is hops, yeast, roasted darkness, smoke, and freshly pulled resinous ganja (in theory, not practice). The flavor has lots fresh tasting hops, anise, solid roasted malts, inevitable ale fruit notes, more bitterness, and just overall very delicious. This is an awesome Brown, but so hard to rate after the awesome beers I’ve rated this evening. Of note here are the hops that taste so fresh against the chocolate and coffee backbone. This is very interesting. hopdog (5549), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a medium to deeper and hazy reddish brown color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of roast, pine, coffee with cream, and chocolate. Tastes of coffee, roast, dark chocolate, floral hoppiness, and maybe some citrus. Light lacing left on a glass. For a brown ale, this one was pretty good. Pinball (2779), Allerød, Denmark

Perhaps it’s just because i’m not that fond of this kind of beer. But it was nothing specail, and it felt like i could get somewhat the same taste from ordinary beers in a way cheaper price category. If i disregard price the beerr is okay, drinkable, nice, quite good. quite bitter and smoked. The other mikkeler i’ve tasted have been a lot better.
i guess it’s the uncompromized mix of bitterness and a hint of burnt wood’ness that turns me off. Perhaps the alc.% is too low??

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2008 The aroma was roasty with a strong dark chocolate impression and a presence of coffee, espresso coffee, through the beige frothy, moussy and tall head. The aroma showcased dark chocolate, coffee, and a presence of dark fruits, raisins and prunes, as the head slowly retreated. Some grassy hop presence was notable as well. The beer poured into the glass crystal clear amber brown with that huge head which laced the glass till it begged for mercy. The flavor was bitter with grassy and citrusy bittering kicking you in the teeth. The resinous hop profile was somewhat unexpected after an aroma filled with chocolate and coffee. The flavor contained coffee, espresso coffee, once again, but more prevalent was the aggressive bittering which was resinous and grassy and had a bit of citrus hop flavor. The finish was bone dry with lasting hop flavor and bittering long into the aftertaste with a eventual flavor of coffee in the finality of the flavor. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation. No appreciable alcohol was notable. The aroma was great, the flavor was pure hop juice, but somehow the beer worked out. 16.9 ounce bottle. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Nice brown/amber color. Monster head, which was a frosty/creamy color. When I smelled this beer I got punched in the nose by hops. I wanst expecting that at all. It also smelled like a brown ale. At first, the taste the hops hits you. Seconds later, a smooth taste of nutty roasted malt. Good texture. It has the perfect blend of hops and brown ale characteristics. This could easily be an every day drinker. One of my new favorite beers!
